BWV 229 - Komm, Jesu, komm (Scrolling)

This in in my opinion certainly one of the greatest unaccompanied (+optional continuo) choral works ever written, along with Bach's other motet 'Singet dem Herrn'. I highly recommend anyone who is able, to sing through at least 1 of the voice parts in this work, because that is the only way I think you can see the full majesty of each musical line being a compelling melody and narrative in itself, even before any harmony or counterpoint is added! I believe this work to be THE best example of Bach's mastery of melody writing in each individual part. In case you don't have the time to learn and sing through an entire voice part, I will give you the timecodes and words of *my favourite hidden melodic moments in the Choir 1 Tenor voice* as that is the voice I know best: 1:13 - 'Mein Leib ist Mude' 2:45 - 'Nach deinem Friede, deinem Friede' 3:22 - 'mir zu schwer, wird mir zu schwer, der saure Weg' 3:58 - 'der saure Weg wird mir zu schwer, zu schwer' 4:28 - 'komm, komm, ich will mich dir erge...ben, komm, komm' 4:42 - 'ergeben, ich will mich dir ergeben, dir ergeben' 5:14 - 'die Wahrheit und das Leben, die Wahr...heit und das Leben' 7:48 - 'der rechte Weg' (This is almost certainly my favourite hidden melodic moment in this piece to sing! Just absolutely dreamy!) 7:58 - 'und das Leben, du bist die Wahrheit' 8:51 - 'und sage Welt zu guter Nacht' 9:23 - 'Er soll bei seinem Schopfer schweben' I hope you were able to pick out some of these little moments and enjoy them! Moments like these exist in all the other voice parts as well!

Very unfortunate there are so few views here compared to most other gerubach vids. Learning and performing this motet was one of the most challenging and eye-opening things I’ve ever done thus far in my life.
