Playing B natural instead of B flat at 13:40 is really a bad idea. :/ Which is weird, because the rest of this recording is full of good ideas!

But it creates the V/V (E to A) in preparing to cadence in D. We just moved through a few keys (this section started in C), so it's necessary as a pivot chord. And also, chromaticism, so it's fun.

Perhaps the Bb was the weird note actually - the surprise.
@SPscorevideos

Carlos, I mean the B at 13:40, at the beginning of the bar, not the one in the end (which is natural in score and in the recording). The B I'm talking about t's flat in the score, but the player plays it natural. It's bad because the chromatism is more interesting as written, IMHO.

In all the years I played, I never saw the notation for that two-note arpeggio we see at 1:04 . I never saw it when I played the piece all those years ago. What's the story behind that?

More like “air and variation in the manner of Vivaldi”. How the 16th and 8th notes interweave, the repetition of the same melody line several times before a resolution, the circle of fifths progression, etc. are all Vivaldi’s signatures. Not to mention the motif in variation VIII was taken right out of one of the variations in Vivaldi’s la folia. Not complaining by the way, the more Vivaldi the better in my opinion.

The point was that the extent of the "Italian" characteristics in this composition is significantly Vivaldi, while there are rarely (if at all) any traces of the characteristics of other Italian composers such as Corelli, Torelli, Veracini etc. that can be considered *distinct* from that of Vivaldi's here. I have never said anything to even slightly imply that Vivaldi not having taken any inspiration from other Italian composers in any stretch of the imagination (he also had German influence from Pisendel, by the way), but he by no means embodies the entirety of the "Italian style". Besides, Bach openly adored Vivaldi and have dedicated him numerous transcriptions. It makes sense for him to emulate the Italian style by following Vivaldi's very closely. Learn to read and read to learn before posting please.
@FckingLOL
@FckingLOL 6 жыл бұрын
>Bach didn't adore Vivaldi Yes, that's why he put so many VIvaldian themes and motifs in his non-transcription works right? The fact that Bach was commissioned to compose those transcriptions does not at all show that Bach didn't adore Vivaldi. In fact this could have influenced how Bach composed in the Italian style, which was the entire point. The main point is that Bach's Italian influence, especially in this and some of the violin sonatas, comes in a major part from Vivaldi.
@FckingLOL
@FckingLOL 5 жыл бұрын
Jay Preis Yes because it is entirely impossible for Bach to hear of Vivaldi prior to the transcriptions, right? I did not at all refer to the “the la folia subject”, but the actual motif as well as how it weaves with the lower voices was quite literally how Vivaldi wrote one of his la folia variations. Obviously anything can seem “superficial”, or anything for that matter, when you fail to read and resort to desperately grasp at the strawmen you set up yourself. I do not care what you personally think of Vivaldi’s work, it is completely irrelevant and makes your claim of my “superficial understanding” quite ironic. I’m just glad that Bach did not share your blatant ignorance of what Vivaldi’s music brings to the table.

Jay Preis... I have a luxury Deutsche Grammophon recording of Bach's 'Brandenburger Konzerte' for the Spanish market saying that Bach rewrote Vivaldi's pieces to feed his 20 children... I don't know whether to call that adoration, but he could have chosen some other composer.

Странно, но как будто это написал не Бах. Не похоже на Баха. Ни одного контрапункта, ни одной темы, для полифонического украшения. Очень странно.
