BYD has also a variant with a even bigger battery (similar to the Haval H6 HPEV). In Thailand, the Sealion 6 is sold with half of the price of a Honda CR-V. I prefer the pure BEV version. But a bigger 7-seater with this technology would be a good future replacement of our Mazda CX-8, which is now mostly only use with a lot of people or longer trips.

If you were to buy one of them now, which would you choose out of the Atto 3 or the Sea Lion 6?
@davejhanssensАй бұрын
Depends on your needs. I have the atto 3 and I am buying the sealion 6. I love the atto but I wanted a car with more range and towing capacity. My partner gets the atto and I get the SL6 so we will be lucky enough to have both.

I can’t help but compare this to the current Seal for equipment levels. It is after all called the “Seal U” in other markets. Specification decisions like having an opening sunroof with a blind in this, but not the Seal. Conversely, no lumbar support in the Sealion, even in the Premium (AWD). I must admit, I found the Sealion 6 nice to drive and liked the “armchair ride”. I did note a drumming noise at motorway speeds though. It may just be the tires fitted, but would be a deal breaker in buying this vehicle for me. 99% of my daily driving is

We noted a similar issue, made worse by the lane keeping system. I suspect this is more down to the EPS calibration and could be updated.

For all the chat about Phev's being great for long range travel, we don't see many long range tests / reviews? I'm Phev curious as my job requires doing several hundred open road km's a few times a week but can't find much info on how thirsty they are in the real world

I did a 2000km trip with a Chinese 115km range version Song Plus DMI, priced 19k USD, not charged at all, used pure gas engine and I got 6.2 L/100km pump-to-pump. I know two people, one's from China, one's from Australia, both of them had the almost exact same figure (6.1 and 6.3). The acceleration is amazing compared with my 2.5T CX-50 on the freeway and in city driving. Interior is way better than most non-luxurious cars in the US, steering is not as good as Mazda and BWM but it's on pair with Hyundai, PHEV is the next level, I don't see anyone would want to drive an ICE car if the PHEV is only slightly more expensive. But sadly, we can't get a BYD in the US.

Wait for sealion 07 or buy this? I'm torn between phev or an ev. Have a 2017 petrol outlander that is costing too much on fuel(80 kms daily) also the boot on this isn't the best size

Was so keen for this to arrive but was disappointed that the full BEV wasn't being exported to right hand drive countries. Also the boot space is a big let down. Regardless, it looks good and is a good value like all BYD cars. I hope the next version has the goods.
@EVsBeyond2 ай бұрын
BYD NZ (and I assume Australia) have a policy of no BEVs that weren't built on a dedicated platform. Same reason we won't get an electric Shark... we will get an alternative BEV ute.

Looks like a great car for what it is but also can’t help but feel that it shouldn’t exist. Studies have shown that PHEV’s get driven a lot more on fuel than they need to be
@EVsBeyond2 ай бұрын
Agreed. Though I suspect that is down to few having the range to be usable as an EV, so people don't prioritise charging. This really is different.

@larryevans67392 ай бұрын
Those studies are based in Europe for company cars that have the company also paying for fuel. BYD has collected actual user data that shows over 88% EV driving. Of course, that might vary depending on the market, charging availability and use case.
@ellWayify2 ай бұрын
@@larryevans6739 I’m not sure that that’s backed up by facts. Sounds like speculation to me. I don't think it's specific to cost and who is paying, it's behavioural. People will take the easiest/laziest option which often means they run on fuel. BYD’s data is likely China specific given that these cars haven’t been available much outside of China
