Congrats! I am absolutely convinced that once you have used this powertrain from BYD, you will never want to drive a conventional ICE again.

@@zimuli3549 yep, umm in this video when I said “it’s hard to explain” I was trying to work out how to say what you’ve just said - it’s as simple as that once you’ve driven the unique powertrain setup here in this phev configuration you have absolutely no interest in ICE anymore 🙆‍♂️

This Ute at 57k before on road's is a bargain.. As fast as a Ford ranger raptor..the interior also looks top notch

@@themoreyouknqw3555 I think people’s argument is going to be more about durability and reliability more than anything. The thing I’m behind is with Ironmans upgrades / off road mods BYD claim to continue to support warranty claims within those modifications by Ironman, in the 4wd/camp/touring space that’s a huge bonus. You won’t see other big manufacturers brands doing that, I’ve had first hand experience with Toyota on this front and even their own pre reg addons that failed was not covered in a new 4wd / challenging times but it’s time for a change in the space… this is where it begins. The Chinese have come to party and is listening to Aussie needs and terrain demands, there will be learning curves but every brand had them. The end game is looking strong.

@AllTerrainActionEV Indeed..also consider that they have been testing this ute against a ford ranger as a benchmark..the soon available upgrades indicates to me that this vehicle has been put through it's paces and is reliable enough to out do Ford in reliability..in my opinion.. Not to mention that it's 50% cheaper than a raptor offering same performance.. Also the raptor does have independent coil sprung rear end which reduces the towing in par with BYD.. So BYD are in a winner here.. Especially with all the inflation..this ute seems to be great value for money..

@@yslee1401 Most likely though the 3 biggest car makers with the highest depreciation is BMW 7 Series. Maserati Ghibli Audi A8 All cars no matter what manufacturer has a depreciation value.. BYD? We will find out I guess.. You can't base depreciation on a vehicle until it has entered the market..and a good few years of ownership.. Having said that the vehicle has good bang for buck

@@themoreyouknqw3555 and yet mainland Chinese in the west only buys the X7, X5, GLS, GLE, Q8, Cayenne, RX, NX & Teslas. They will never buy a Chinese branded vehicle. It would be a reputation kamikaze for anyone to be seen in a PRC branded vehicle

Great videos, have been seeing your channel since I ordered my BYD Sealion 6. Was thinking to get your suggestion about HEV or EV, when would be the time we use HEV and the time use EV? If you don’t mind answering with your experience

HEV anytime > 80km/h, EV anything less than 80km/h. Unless I know I have the range to make it to the destination I will just use EV regardless of speed. If I know for sure I have to do say 250km, and know I wont charge anywhere on that trip, I'll set SOC to 50% then drive in HEV, until I know only 30km left of my trip to get back home and then switch back to EV to maximise the EV range of the trip. 50% is my decision for that type of driving if HEV and long trip so battery stays within optimal range to minimise degredation - 60% would be better but ive decided 50 for me. That been said.. if my day is total 70km distance EV the whole way, and EV MAX mode if I need like to go downto 18% for example just to make it home to avoid turning over the ICE engine for such a short remaining distance home.

Thanks mate, most of our Monday -Friday driving are less than 10KM per day. Would go outside to charge like once every two days, so it should be EV mode while on the weekend we go from SouthEast to City, then probably switch to HEV on M3/M1 then EV again after existing HWY

@@zhipengxie679 I'm currently gathering footage for a video that will break down how ICE vehicles, particularly automatics, experience efficiency losses due to torque converter slippage. This comparison will make everyone understand why EVs excel at lower, non-highway speeds, thanks to advantages like regenerative braking but also removing that loss of energy from ICE power convertion to wheels which will also cover why ICE vehicles perform less efficiently at slower speeds. BYD’s DMI and DMO systems bring the best of both worlds by leveraging the strengths of both engine technologies. This dual-mode innovation from BYD is setting a new benchmark in efficiency, likely making it one of the top systems available in today’s market (in my opinion). Just remember when you're on the way home and know you will be able to charge again, even if on highway you go to EV for the remaining % of battery to 25% this will maximise savings.

@@johntubb704 not at all, Sealion dmi gave me a good view of how I’m expected to use the dmo system in the bush with my other channel - so really it was a gateway to be confident in my shark purchase.

@@l33tr4n55 we have placed our order, I am still confirming how I plan to work this into my life as it is! I think if you can wait for next gen it’s worth doing so, but for me it’s an immediate answer to some other things happening on my other channel - this vehicle will cross Simpson desert east to west in June as well now.

The update also has over 500kws , I think BYD got a tap on the shoulder by big brother who knows exactly what type of #@!&*% drivers drive these things , and they don't want them in 500kw utes.

Sorry for asking this stupid question. I thought I understood the byd shark technology but when I was trying explain to my friend, I got stuck with consistency of shark’s performance regardless of it is coming from fully charged battery or coming from petrol engine. Bottom line is, if my destination is 700km away from the plugging station. Would I get the same level performance through out the trip ?

Hard to know with the Shark but the BYD ecosystem is very similar across Shark and Sealion and if we base it on that the Sealion begins to drop off max power around 25-30% battery. Significantly drops off at less than 20%. I have found if you need to do long trips setting SOC to 60% then driving your trip in HEV mode you’ll always have the power available. That been said, if you did a long hill climb I would suspect the onboard generator couldn’t keep up, but without testing this I cannot be sure. Still that been said you’d have to be climbing for 30mins non stop before that would become an issue I would say, just won’t happen.

Ohhhh… I’m a bit confused. I thought the big hype around this Ute was its ability to cover over 700 km on a single charge plus a full tank of petrol. But I’m not sure how useful that would be if its performance is significantly compromised when going a few hundred km off roading

Shark using dmo platform which is more advance than the sealion, it would drop some power but pretty sure it should beway less than 10% if the performance is similar to fangchengbao5 which is also using the dmo platform

@@praveenycw ​​⁠how is that any different from conventional 4wd? A lot of 4wds double up on fuel usage off road? I can’t see how the Shark would be any different if anything be more efficient at slower speed motions.

I been trying to go full ev, but as yet nothing is on offer in Australia suitable for our off-road needs, do not really need a ute, either, but popularity means they come first.

Every country has different testing and reporting methods. Probably aligns with our local regs. Just like the listing on ground clearance was changed for our regs.

Only time will tell. I'm game to take it to that test we have a curent model Hilux in our 4WD crew and it will be a great comparison between the two wheeling and touring, including our simpson desert crossing in June 2025.
