@simonmiller5118Ай бұрын
Nah...it's all because of it having no gears and no low range transfer case. Yes it has 600Nm but it has no way of having the torque multiplied ie with gears etc. A modern 4x4 ute in low range first gear will have a multiplication factor of around 60 to 1. This means the available torque at the wheels will be multiplied to an amazing amount of twisting force compared to an EV with only one gear. So a diesel 4x4 which has 400Nm could supply 100Nm x 60 or 6,000Nm to each wheel. Yes, there are losses but you get the point. The motors in the heavy Shark simply don't have the ability to provide enough force for difficult terrain. This could be fixed if they added a low range transfer case to provide a high tractive crawl mode for off roading as Rivian are doing.

Disappointingly, you hadn't studied the modes available and stuffed up off-road demonstration, but you did reinstall some faith eventually. Thank You VERY Mucch for your video review of this Pre-production model. I loved you jokes and your style is great, an excellent presenter ! Considering this particular model was not production ready and with obvious issues that will not be there in production, it's quite something. The production models will surely stand up & above others for a while. "Maybe" even kick the competition in the keister to match & better... BTW, as a Canadian I must say, I'm ENVIOUS that you can get these quality rides !

Thanks mate. I'm really thrilled I got the chance to drive it. Seems like a decent machine, even as a pre-production vehicle. -Gav

It’s driver error. Lower the tyre pressures for mud or sand then use a pump (you have vehicle to load to run a small compressor). That is essential 4WD options.
@evtorque3 ай бұрын
Traction Control must be OFF!!!! in this situation. As your wheels begin to spin, the brakes will be applied to that/those wheels. Snow, sand and mud modes must allow for spin to continue. Imagine feathering brakes going uphill????? But .... Loved your vid, really, I loved it, thank you.

Love your style, best BYD Shark review i have seen so far! re. off-roading, this thing is VERY heavy at 2.7+ ton so i'd image it's not a perfect Ute to go on mud & sand, while its sister 4wd model Bao/leopard 5 with same DMO system has proved to be quite capable in off roading (released last year back in China).

Again @ 12:34 the reviewer does not understand how regen braking works on BYD's. Two things, first regen off throttle is set to two levels, standard and high, with high actually staying in standard until the brakes are used, then you notice it will be a higher level off throttle. And secondly regen settings are only a starting point and increase greatly with brake pedal application. A return trip home down a mountain pass adds 6 km's of energy on my run home. So it does work quite well.
