In knitting, the twisted German cast on does the same thing as this, gives a stretchy edge with the first row already done.

Was just thinking this. Many people have crossover and I was wondering why this looked so familiar at first. I use this, without drawing the back through, to be able to graft live stitches to live or to knit in both directions for symmetry.

Genius idea! Combining the long tail cast on with crochet! I’m a knitter as well and I actually cast on with a crochet hook. Sometimes mixing things makes things so much easier! Also, I’m doing a lot of crochet bralette tops for the summer, and I think this is the perfect starting foundation for that, having stitches on top and bottom to work into when starting each cup.

When you said you invented a new way to start crochet, I got snarky and thought "oh, please!" But then I watched the video, and in less that a minute you proved me so totally wrong! I've been knitting and crocheting for 35 years, and it never occured to me to crossover and use a long tail cast on for crochet!!! Even though I use a crochet foundation chain for a provisional cast on in knitting. I'm really impressed - well done! And thanks for the video - keep up the great work and the improv! Absolute genius!!!

Maybe this is a stupid question, but how long a tail would I need to make a 60 inch length. Im a new crocheter & hate making the chain row … it’s uneven. I want to make a blanket w the Moss stitch and the how to videos are really unclear on how to go into it from a chain row … or mine is really sloppy anyway. Can I use this technique then go into the moss stitch? Or is my only option a chain row and into a moss stitch from that? Loved this video, thanks!
@ravenlunatic1177
@ravenlunatic1177 11 ай бұрын
@@loridavis7086Yes, you should be able to treat this foundation crochet as the first row for any stitch you might want to use for your blanket. I’ve been making projects this way for a couple months now and haven’t had any problems using any stitches. As for the length of yarn needed for the tail, you will need 3xs the desired finished length. So using your 60” as a finished size, you would need to start your slip knot at 180”. HTH have fun crocheting! Cheers from FL😺

So technically you can omit the slip knot replace the knot at the bottom by performing a twist as first loop -- then the slingshot loop. making two loops. the first loop is a provisional. Also when you go for the very first stitch in the video you perform a single yarn over to single crochet however if you perform a double yarnover you are either doing a halfdouble or double crochet. You can yarnover thrice for a treble.
