So bittersweet watching Benjamin's after The Cars days videos. Knowing that within a year or so he'd be gone is heartbreaking. Rest in Peace Benjamin.🌹

I lived in Atlanta for almost 50 years. '99 was an interesting year in that it came before the anticipated changeover to Y2K. . .a year that never did what many thought it would. Ironically, Benjamin Orr was living there in the last stages of his life. I think he passed in the same hospital I had two knee surgeries. I remember a local radio station doing a tribute to him at his passing. it was terribly sad. Even though it's bittersweet to watch this video knowing that it was to be among his last, it's still good to live in a time of a great artist knowing what a musical legacy he left behind. Good of you and Jeff to post it. Keep on rockin' in the CARS world.

Have lived in Atlanta for nearly 70 and remember when this album came out, still have the cd and listen to it frequently and most sorry that without the vids didn't know there was another singer in The Cars and most sorry that most attention was put on Ric where I really didn't know Ben was the other half of what made them one of the greatest. Thanks for posting this Donna...

The irony of this statement is. . David Robinson sounded even better on this song. I always thought "Bye Bye Love" was David's best drumming for the CARS. Yet, when it comes to debating "great" drummers, David Robinson's name is almost never mentioned. The beat is so strong here.

Donna, can you tell me why Ben was called the "11 Letters"? What does that mean? Thank you for your answer. Years later, I discover Ben. I'm infatuated. I don't know what it is about him that attracts so much attention, despite so many years since he passed away. I'm looking for everything about him. I adore him. Greetings from Poland.🇵🇱❤️
@donnasweetpurplejune6335 Жыл бұрын
Welcome! His last name was Orzechowski, which has 11 letters. When he was a teenager, he was given the nickname Benny 11 Letters because his last name was long and difficult to pronounce. He later legally changed his name to Orr. I know just how you feel. There is definitely something about him that gets a hold of us fans and won't let us go.
@firo6044 Жыл бұрын
@@donnasweetpurplejune6335 Hello Donna, thank you for your answer. From this it follows that the pseudonym resulted from the method of study. I'm not surprised. The surname Orzechowski is quite a popular Polish surname, and because of our "rz", "ch", it causes quite a problem for foreigners. Just like the name of our Polish singer who sang from the band Mat Bianco, Basia Trzetrzelewska.😃 I am rediscovering Ben, in my early youth I listened to The Cars, and now I am focused on vocals and the whole performer. I'm just blown away by Ben's talent and personality. I'm glad that there are more fans of Ben's talent and we can exchange about him. I'm glad Donna that I met you at least virtually, I follow your blog and uploads on yt. Greetings dear from Poland. Take care.😘🇵🇱❤️🇵🇱🫂

The person who filmed this evidently was confused on who the Star Singer was so this really sucked. Not worth watching in my opinion.
@donnasweetpurplejune63353 жыл бұрын
Not everyone in the world was in love with Ben. The person who filmed this was Derek St. Holmes' late wife, so I'm sure she was focusing on HER star, and rightfully so. This entire rehearsal would have been lost to us without her, and any Ben is better than no Ben, I say.
