Watching your loved ones, your grandma or mom or dad, or anybody being taken from their home to a hospital and knowing you may never see them again would be heartbreaking. I hope they get some help. What you put in a box won’t stay there. That box starts bulging and you might find you’re more anxious, nervous. Or going places causes stress. Panic attacks, night terrors. It escalates. You’re mind will protect you while you need it to but the moment you relax it comes out. We now have all these health workers who’ve been traumatized and if we as a society don’t make sure they are given the right help, many might suffer some serious consequences.

I am a young adult with a terminal illness I have a wonderful 24/7 caregiver I met her at a Catholic Retreat and just a couple of months before this pandemic started she became my permanent 24/7 caregiver all of her children have grown up and moved out and her husband unfortunately passed away a few years back. We had a discussion about what we would do if I was experiencing covid-19 symptoms that weren't mild because after all I do have supplemental oxygen because I already have trouble breathing and we've been going back to church since we have the opportunity to and she doesn't like keeping me cooped up inside. And I told her " Wadad if I get really sick and if it's severe and fatal please do not let the paramedics take me to the hospital because if it were my last day I don't want to spend it on my own you and I both know I want to spend it with you doing our Lebanese Catholic prayers and you right by my side before I go." And she told me that she would not let them take me if I didn't want to go even though our hospital is a good Catholic one that has taken care of me before she told me that if I don't want to go she's not going to make me go and she's not going to let them take me. If I were to get coronavirus and pass on she would be willing to lock herself away for 2 weeks as long as she got to be with me and take care of me. I have been intubated and put on a ventilator once before and she knows I don't want to do that again. I asked her when it is time for me to go whether it be from coronavirus or my terminal illness that she and if possible our priest be the people right next to me guiding me to everlasting life. Her cousin who is a paramedic doesn't know what to think about my wishes for the paramedics not to take me if I do get sick but at the same time she understands how close we are and without my caregiver she understands I would be really scared

So much history lost when our seniors pass away. We much do as much as possible to help them. Even though i am very very busy with work, my mom calls me at least 4 times a day with the same repetitive questions. Before Covid19 i would tell her (sometimes forcefully) that i was way too busy to talk or not even answer her call which was only once a day exactly at 10am like clockwork. My friends that have met my mom say they would give up everything to have there mom or dad or both around now. It took a pandemic to help me realize how LUCKY i am that mom is still alive. Now i stop everything (kinda have it like that at the moment) to talk with her and ask her questions from her pass and present daily activities to help her with brain function. I plan on driving 3500+ miles cross the US very soon to bring her back to stay with me forever. Please everyone think about our elders, the pains they have gone through in life and the history that some of them still retain.

My 86yo mom passed on June 07, 2020. Not covid-19 related. She had advanced Alzheimer's and I had to put her in a memory care facility in November 2019. I got to visit everyday and things were going ok. She would do arts and crafts, get her nails painted and sit by the gazebo and have lunch with me. Then covid-19 hit and the last time I saw my mommy alive was March 12th. We did FaceTime twice weekly, but not allowed to see her in person. On Sunday June 7th, I got the call she had passed away in her sleep. I feel the guilt this daughter has and more than that, the anger that my mom died, but not of covid-19 and the facility still refused to let me see her. I promised her I wouldn't put her in a facility and that I would be there with her when she passes. I failed to keep both promises. She had a lovely funeral on July 8th at Rose Hills. Bye mommy, I love you.
