BRICS an acronym representing the five major developing economies of the decade Brazil,Russia,India,China,and South Africa.Founded in 2006 as BRIC,with first formal meeting in 2009,in Russia,became BRICS with inclusion of South Africa in 2010. After a decade of uninterrupted cooperation, the 11 th summit held recently concluded in Brasilia,Our PM laid emphasis on the need for greater push in the association.Representing 40%of global population ,but Intra BRICS trade cooperation standing at only 15% of global trade clealrly shows the vast potential unutilised.In the address India laid stress on Utilising the best features of the member countries be it market size,resource availability, skilled labour force,IT,science &tech etc.The Brics Business Forum outlined the members objective in future.With the establishment of Joint Group on counter terrorism ,Innovation Brics Network,and Brics Institute of Future Network were among key agreements to strengthen further coope cooperation. Despite Economic slowdown BRICS nation registered high economic growth,but the concern lies in below par Intra Brics engagement.Our PM stressed on the need to identify priority areas in member countries and come up with joint ventures in emerging fields like AI,EVs,infrastructure,Digital technology,FPIs so as to increase the volume of Intra BRICS trade. Being a grouping of developing world ,a better engagement in trade and dev with a fair,non descriminatory ,rule based order can give a push the grouping in the coming decade,where India is all set to welcome investments and cooperations with Ease of doing Business, Logistics performance and innovation index pointing to a favouravle and business friendly atmosphere.

Answer to the Mains practise question in bullet points: BRICS: Brazil Russia India China SouthAfrica -> Was set up for co-operation and development between these developing countries and to stop domination by the developed nations. -> These days we can see that the shine is lost, as a matter of fact that the economy has been on slow down. -> The economy of world is gradually slowing down and there has been a decrease in the economies of all the BRICS nations. -> The theme of this year’s BRICS summit itself mentions the world economy slowdown. -> The other reason can be asserted to the lack of trade and communication between the nations. -> Take for example, Brazil and China issue. Once Bolsonaro became the President of Brazil, he did not want the Chinese to have close travel and trade with Brazil. -> Bolosnaro, being the President of the largest country in South America, wanted to have a say over the matters in the countries of South America matters. -> But, if China involves and has trade, then there can be Chinese domination as is evident from throughout the world. -> This has created a difference between the member countries. -> These differences if can be worn out and sorted then there can be an upward surge of the country members and also see BRICS getting back its shine. Recently bring summit OS concluded, its is an international regional conference attended by all head of state or government . The main aim of BRICS country is coordinate in field of infrastructure, innovation, development, trade and to counter US . It initivatiev are New development bank, contiguous reserve arrangement and BRICS payment system. But now BRICS losing it colour beause of various reasons: • China and Brazilian relationship. Beause of presidentship of Bolsanaro in largest country of south America affect trade with China and dumping of Chinese good. • Trade war and economic slowdown in country like Russia ,India and south Africa. • Trade deficit that some country faces like India with China and Russia . • Represneting largest population region in world .
