The correct answer for Q6 is B. For the explanation to why Statement 1 is wrong, watch the segment in the video from 1:59 to 2:14. Here it has been explained why the salinity will indeed increase, not decrease.

BYJU'S IAS the question doesn't ask about coastal sand mining. It is a general question. Sand mining takes place in UP, Bihar etc, where I'm sure there will no salt water intrusion as given in the explanation.

How will sand mining decrease salinity, it should increase salinity???

Sir rivers are always fresh water, so no question of salinity

"salinity of river will increase due to sea water rushing into the river bed" this is the reason given at 2:14. but the option says decrease in salinity. I am bit confused now. please clearify.

Sir, can you please check question 6 Consequences of Sand mining . For this question is answer is B (2 and 3 only) but you said answer D (1, 2 and 3 ). Salinity will increase but not decreases. Please clarify.

Sir when the sea water enters the river as per your explanation wouldn't the salinity increase as opposed to decreasing?
