I don’t think this is realistic for those who do pay for housing costs, bills, student loans, car notes, etc. but it was satisfying to see the break down!

This is motivating to start saving more money! I'm planning to go to Japan in May 2020 and move out in around fall of 2020/winter of 2021. Unfortunately I pay rent to my family and have been since I was 18 (almost 500/month from 18 to 21ish, sometimes more). I haven't been able to save hardly any money because most of mine went to help my family out. However, I'm almost done my degree and will be able to work more and my family is doing better financially so I don't have to give them as much as before (been giving them around 200/month since I was 21ish, 23 now). I'm hoping I can save a good chunk so I can go on my trip and have a good emergency savings for when I move out!! I have about 9 months to save for Japan and a little over a year to save for my emergency fund to move out... I have to start paying back my student loans in around June of 2020 which will definitely make it difficult....but I can do this!!!! Would you ever be interested in doing a video on moving out by yourself one day and how to prep and things they don't tell you about it? I don't know if you have any experience yet but it'd be very informative!

Well done, i've done the same. But in the Netherlands you can go to the best University for about 2000 euro a year, so I did not spend my savings on education. Ended up using the money to buy my first appartement (of course with a mortage as well), but without saving I don't think I would be able to buy at the current market which is crazy for starters. Still have a lot of money now due to work + mortage is so much better/lower than rent.

I am a rising sophomore in college with an on-campus job and this video was really informative!! I have never really thought about rationing out my school earnings to my savings account after each paycheck. It does make more sense because it helps you have a secure foundation, money-wise. I live a pretty frugal life, so I usually tend to just let my earnings sit in my checking account..but now after watching your video, I feel like I gained a more widened perspective when it comes to saving which also means that I have to be more vigilant towards what I spend my money on. Aside from that, I'm definitely looking forward to the budgeting video!

Still in the process of finding the right school and/or country to do my Masters. Thanks in advance 😊
@bykchoi
@bykchoi 4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm I don’t think the ranking of my uni made much of a difference in the States because although UCL is top-ranked and very well-known in Europe/UK, it’s not AS well known in the US (outside of academia, maybe). I think for me it was my overall story/journey and going to London for my masters made the most sense to get to where I am now!

For young people, the fastest way you can earn more is to switch jobs regularly(around 2 years per job). Learn what you can and switch. You are not going to working forever, and you will become older, so make sure you are getting paid as much you can. For fresh grads, unless you are doing internship/industry attachments as part of your degree, go straight for full-time jobs as most proper roles are for full-timers, might as well get paid for it.

Would you happen to know or have any leads on that, especially the latter? Hey there! Greetings from Turkey! Love how informative your channel is ! I have few questions for you, I’d be more than glad if you’ve answered them :-) soo, say you were just graduated from college and had the money, would you still consider choosing Masters degree in London that doesn’t require work experience right away? Do you think its better to work 1 year or two on the field of choice than choosing a Masters degree that doesnt require work experience right away? Have 1-2 years of work after school effected your acceptance process to the Masters? Do you think that a masters degree “not requiring work experience gor application” is better aplied quickly? Thank you
@bykchoi
@bykchoi 4 жыл бұрын
It all depends. If I knew right after graduating college that I wanted to go into consulting, then maybe I would have considered doing that program. For my situation, it made sense to work first, then get my degree and switch careers. For others it might be different!

I wouldn’t say hard, but I was definitely very budget conscious when I was in London because I knew I was basically just eating into my savings 😂 but it was an experience I had been working towards for so long and I was ready! I also got a part time job while I was in London and was making (VERY) small amounts on KZbin so that helped too.

Thanks for breaking down your budget. It sounds like you didn't have any student loans - is that right?

hope it was helpful, and correct -- very luckily no student loans.

I'm surprised at how people live paycheck to paycheck and don't even consider saving. Saving first is the biggest and most important thing for being financially responsible. I see it as if I'm getting paid £2000 per month, then at least £1000 goes into savings instantly. Like, not even seen, much like tax deduction. But jeez this is difficult in the USA, particularly with 401k and health insurance. All credit to you. I'm saving up to do an MBA (even though I've already done a PhD) cos businesses just don't take me seriously cos I don't have 5 years experience.

Hi, great video! I am planning on going to grad school in England and I was wondering if you got any scholarship or help from the school to pay for tuition? I’m just curious if that is something that they offer to international students!

@@bykchoi thanks, I have a budgeting question. How do you stick to your budget. I struggle to be consistent and the moment I falling behind I struggle with picking it up again 😭😭

I'm starting grad school at UCL in a few weeks! What kind of job did you have while you were there / how hard was it to find one?

I used the UCL job board to find a note-taking job! It actually wasn’t at the university but they had a listing there.

Are we the same person?! I did the exact same thing and I can confirm it 100% works! One more tip for people who are interested: check if your bank has the option to auto-transfer some money into your savings account every time you use your debit card. It can be as little as $0.50-$1.00 per transaction on your debit card but it'll add up!
