Thank you! I ended up doing this for all 3 just so I can rule out what is not working with the MB. It ended up being the fan once I put a new one in lol. Anyways I am staying with this because it does rule out the switches being bad doing it this way the next time it stops working on me.

I love my 1050 but these damn switches are it’s Achilles heel. I’ve replaced 3 of them and now I’m here. Thanks for the easy fixing!

Thank you for this. After about 10 minutes my 800 series grill would stop working after getting to the desired cook temperature. I did your under grill wiring setup and everything worked fine. I didn’t think it was the fan with mine since it heats up pretty quick. I ordered a replacement fan also from amazon just incase as it seems those go out too. I’ve had mine for 2.5 years and this was first issue I’ve had with it.

If you're fully commited to the bypass, just cut out the connectors and join the black wires together. Use heat shrink to make it look better. You can always re-install the connectors if you want.

I think @smokingmeatsbbq's idea is better without cutting the connectors.

Bypassing the way he did in this video won't void any warranties. If you just cut the wires and join them together, any warranty you may have will most definitely be voided.

So my 560 fan wont turn on. I think its the switches and want to buy/make the loops. If i do that and the fan wont turn on still, what would be the next think to replace...fan itself. Control board, plug seem to be working fine...just cant it to turn on. May be i try the short term foil truck first to see if that gets it turned on. Link for the bypass loops?

Hey! Thanks for the vid. If the tin foil trick doesn’t kick in the fan is there a problem elsewhere? Fan stopped after I opened the hopper lid and wouldn’t come back on after closing. This was the first fire up after winter. Was fine for 30 mins then stopped.

I realize this is a year old vid but I just found it researching this grill. May I ask why the need to unplug the bypass you installed to open the hopper lid to add charcoal? Thank you.
@Smokingmeatsbbq8 ай бұрын
No worries. I try to manage all comments :) Anyways, the reason is if you allow the fans to run while you open that chimney, you run the risk of really creating a flame thrower out of the top. I've singed my eye brows before. Just be careful, but its not 100% needed if you are quick to add more. The flame risk is low when the hopper is very full and more of a risk when the hopper is low. Just a lot of oxygen entering the system.

can you buy the jst connectors pre soldered like you have them?
@Smokingmeatsbbq10 ай бұрын
I don't think you can. Twisting the together and using electrical tape would work just fine honestly. There also is a product called solder seal that you can use a heat gun to connect the wires but honestly that's likely too much work.

Question for you. I bypassed the switches with the ones you linked to in your other video. I also added the Fireboard drive 2. Every once in a while I get a lid error even though they are bypassed. Any ideas? I twisted the switch wires and sealed all three. Should I replace the 3 ? Thx
@Smokingmeatsbbq10 ай бұрын
A lid error on a fireboard? Try going into the settings. There’s something to do with the lid in there. I think mainly it’s designed to cut the fans off if the ambient temp drops temp too quickly. Then it pauses the fan output for a set time. Sorry, I hope that helps!!

That was it. Lid detection was on and set for 7 minutes. Turned the feature off. Thx for the help.

My fan went out a couple of months ago on my 560. I replaced the switches and to no avail. I want to replace the fan or possibly the controller but don’t want to buy unnecessary parts. You think the tin foil trick could work for? If so how exactly do I do it?
@Smokingmeatsbbq Жыл бұрын
I would absolutely try it first. Likely chance it helps! Just stuff tin foil in the connectors I show. You want to make contact of the two pins in each plug.

I have seen several video that the temp switch gives out after several cooks. Is that why you are using the Fire board 2?
@Smokingmeatsbbq Жыл бұрын
Not entirely. The temp switches will give you a hassle but it’s easy to work around. I’m using Fireboard due to the consistency of temp, the app experience and because I’m a tinkerer at heart and I can’t leave well enough alone!

@@Smokingmeatsbbq Do you think that the 800 is better quality with issues fixed like temp switch and quality of metal used than the 560.
