Clarkes Beach in Byron Bay is a very shallow bay with extensive reef, but the reef comes and goes when erosion from rough seas changes the way the sands move around the Bay and inevitably bury or unearth a maze of rocky crevices... from time to time the reef is so extensive but very very shallow with a maximum depth of around 3.5 metres.
The area is generally always a surfing zone so very rarely would you scuba dive this location, but this was one of those fortunate days and it was worth the effort to see 4 woebegone sharks and some marvellous fish life.
