"The Work" of Byron Katie is a way of identifying and questioning the thoughts that cause all the fear, violence, depression, frustration, and suffering in the world. Experience the happiness of undoing those thoughts through The Work, and allow your mind to return to its true, awakened, peaceful, creative nature. It's a way to understand what's hurting you, and to address the cause of your problems with clarity.
In her own words: "Byron Katie has one job: to teach people how to end their own suffering. As she guides people through the powerful process of inquiry called The Work, they find that their stressful beliefs-about life, other people, or themselves- radically shift and their lives are changed forever."

When I first read her book ten years ago I thought it was a joke. Earlier this year 1/18, with my anxiety and depression raging I was talked into to trying the work....within 3 months, my life reversed itself. I can not explain it to you just trust someone that was opposed to this.... 1 session of the work did more than 5 years of therapy!!!

The mind is complex. The answers, simple. The mind deals in the "created" past and future (beliefs). "You" have no past or future. Enlightenment means enlightened to the way the mind works. Does the mind have you or do you have a mind? Our daily language actually carries the answers. We each just have to learn to listen, and change the language to align with the present. Byron is a true master of this wisdom. Apply and awake. Viva La Work and the "divine" Ms Katie ;-)

Thank you Byron Katie for sharing some profound wisdom. I understand where you're coming from, but if one is in a habitually abusive relationship---physically, mentally, emotionally, and/or sexually---and one thinks or believes, "S/he doesn't care about me," then one is spot on, and should realize that this person is mirroring back the lack of love for self first and foremost, since those who love themselves have healthy boundaries and don't tolerate such mistreatment. So unless both parties are willing to change soon---that starts with inner change/a choice to start unconditionally loving self (to include self-respect, self-compassion, self-empowerment, etc.)---then it's highly beneficial to let go of the unhealthy relationship and go separate ways.

The process is about self inquiry. If you didn't have sense to leave an abusive relationship before, this process might help you to do so. She never says you have to stay together. She says people who do things to their detriment are not clear enough in their mind YET to make the choices that would better suit them.

"Thoughts cause all the suffering in the world." -- Is it true? -- Can you be absolutely certain? "Suffering should be avoided." -- Is it true? -- Can you be absolutely certain? "Enlightenment happens [by doing the work]" -- Is it true? -- Can you be absolutely certain? Notice the unconscious beliefs presented in this video.... And consider that, maybe, while the work might be useful for disarming some unhelpful beliefs, beliefs themselves might not be the enemy Byron Katie makes them out to be. And consider the possibility that trying to avoid suffering all the time might not be the answer -- in the words of Rumi, "Your suffering is your treasure."
