It’s a pattern where in these major sports they always get a black face to break the ice on these type of scenarios. Of course this situation is primarily at an all black institution, but in general I see this happen a lot. Being the first at something don’t mean you should be tokenized when these same corporations aren’t in solidarity with our plight through civil unrest etc.

For those questioning why he needs to discuss this. Well, if he kept it quiet he'd be relentlessly questioned about it or whispered about until he gets fed up to the point of telling everyone. Plenty of public figures out here who constantly endure slick comments, public questioning their sexuality, and their private life. So the answer is probably to maintain his sanity and simply shut nosy folks up before they start.

Eh, depends on how you look at it. Sure, it doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. However, for some going through the same bs at another school, a homosexual college football player - this video does in some ways give those people some perspective, maybe that things will be aight? I don’t know. I guess it does depend on the area and the players - but it still gives that little bit of hope for the incoming future.

For anyone saying “why is anyone talking about this?” It’s because Representation Matters. A young kid seeing someone who is like them, succeeding in what they want to do, is a powerful thing. It lets them know that it’s possible. It’s no different than a little girl who wants to fly planes seeing a female pilot on TV, or a young black kid seeing a black actor win an Oscar. It’s something that says “your dreams are possible, and you belong in this world.”
