Plea deals are often offered to save the courts time, money and manpower and the 15 years is to ensure that to some degree justice is served. He took the plea for lower charge and less time if he had fought the case and went to trial he would've been convicted and sentenced to 25 years so him pleading guilty to a lesser charge took 10 years off his sentence
