Another fantastic video, thank you! I am a Yorkshireman in my 50's and have been living in Cornwall for 27 years, but the lakes are my favourite place. I hiked up Helvellyn alone in the winter of 2002 when all the mountains were snow covered. It was amazing. I have taken my Cornish partner and kids there a few times and they love it too. I went on several school trips in the 80's and always stayed at Patterdale YHA. These were the best times of my life. I also used to ride up there many times in the summer on my motorbike with friends in the 90's.

The mist shrouded mountains, the hills, the waterfalls, stunning doesn't do it justice, I would describe this amazing part of Britain as 'savagely beautiful' it's as if the area has its own consciousness which must be respected by us mere humans at all times as we are granted access to it. Thank you for taking us with you, and thank you Helen for sharing such a personal moment with us as you refelcted on your Mum, my heart goes out to you, I, and many others I suspect, have lost a parent or both parents, and life is never the same again....I'm looking forward to sharing many more adventures with you both, take care and all the best!

Hi James & Helen, I'm very late to the 'By The Curb' party but getting a bit obsessed with your brilliant Vlogs 😃... Going through some old ones and this one touched my heart, it was very emotional to watch but so very well done. I lost my mum 20 years ago my son was only 4 months old as you can imagine it was hell on earth and to this day I feel so sad at times but a few words of comfort. I know if I'm smiling my mum is too, she'll be looking down on me enjoy life to the fullest with amazing people that make a positive difference to me. Just like you Helen 🕊️ Keep smiling and enjoy every single moment ❤️ ☺️ Sorry a bit deep but it really touched me and I know grieving is a painful process. Also I absolutely LOVE the Lakes been going for 25 years, to Ambleside and surrounding areas, stunninggggg views everywhere, it's a place that takes my breath away. Love & hugs Claire 🤗 🍻

Well done guys. Great video, warts n all. It's a beautiful hike which I havent done for quite a few years , now you've made me want to revisit. I'm 73 but think I'm 23 and whilst the spirits willing I'm trying hard not to admit that the old bones ain't what they used to be. Went up Ben Lawyer a Scottish Munro, couple of years before the covid thing, thought my legs were going to fall off by time I'd scrambled back down. As for the waterproofs, mine stay in the bag until it's too late so by time I put them on I'm usually drenched. Any way, thanks for the video, great fun (from my armchair)

James, regarding the walking poles.....I climbed up Snowdon with them and they were a bloody nuisance. Didn't stop me sliding down on my bottom as we began the descent.. And one of the poles nearly had my eye out as I tried to stop the slide. At the same time, my favourite Ian Poulter baseball cap flew off and floated away down to a field of grazing sheep. I like to think one of them might have took to wearing it. Thanks both for another great video!
