BYU Basketball & Kevin Young Close To 'Kanon' Addition To Their Big 12 Arsenal | BYU Cougars Podcast

The BYU Cougars appear to be on the verge of adding another elite talent to the BYU men's basketball program as Top-40 prospect Kanon Catchings is nearing a commitment decision and sources have told Jake Hatch that Kevin Young and the BYU basketball program appear to be in prime position to add Catchings immense talent to their Big 12 Conference roster.
Jake then talked about the debate being raised of if Brigham Young University (BYU) is on its way to becoming a "basketball school" after spending the better part of the past five decades-plus as a "football school" and while the debate is a valid one to have it appears to be premature to say that transition is occuring when KYU hasn't even taken the court in the Big 12 yet.
Finally, the show wrapped up with some thoughts on the official addition of Egor Demin to the BYU hoops roster as Jake explains that Demin could end up being the most-talented and celebrated player in a decade if his talent and hype is real as gets ready to lead BYU into their second Big 12 campaign ahead of a potential Top-10 selection in the NBA Draft in 2025.

What a glorious offseason for BYU

BYU is an elite sports school. They are very good in multiple sports. Football is maybe the toughest to become the premier program at this point. But they will become extremely good over the next 3 years. BB is becoming amazing and look how fast this is happening. The next 3 years will be incredible for all BYU sports.

BYU Football had a tough year but are still a football school. Football still draws most of the money for the TV contract in the Big XII. I am very excited with the type of athletes the Cougs are bringing in.

Really depends on how this group plays this season. Successful season with Demin and Catchings getting drafted then it will continue. Mediocre season with no draft picks or worse Some of these top guys transferring then it could fall on its face real quick. Important for Kevin Young to follow through.

Jake, you mention that BYU MBB could add even another walk-on to the current roster, but they already have four - T. Tripple, JMac, Max Triplett, and Adam Stewart. Isn’t the limit three walk-ons, on top of 13 scholarships?

Honestly, but start to finish, basketball games are generally more fun for me to watch then football games. There's too much stop/start in the football games and the continuous reviewing of plays keeps getting worse. If they'd eliminate some the stops in the football games, it would be more fun to watch. That's just me though.

These guys aren't coming to BYU to get to the NBA. They were always NBA bound. They're coming because they want to be successful once they get there. Playing for KD, booker, and Chris Paul's favorite coach is a good pitch for getting NBA ready.
