Biggest issue is the CFB and NCAA protecting the SEC and the Big10. Not focused on getting the 12 best teams in the playoff but rather generating the most revenue. Part of the way this gets resolved is by getting more media in play. Instead of sucking up to ESPn and Fox and playing these super late games, Apple, Prime, NBC steps in next media rounds and starts picking off the strays I. The PaC 12 and Big 12 and ACC. New media partners run these games in the afternoons and the big dogs will feel the crunch as the viewership in the bottom of the conferences taking hits. You think it’s unrealistic but ESPN is not a well enough ran organization to not screw it up. Next round of media talks will send earthquakes through the college football landscape.

Nothing wrong with this rule, to many dudes toil away at the end of rosters. Some earn playing time but I’m sure there are plenty who don’t get the opportunity. Dudes will trickle out of the SEC AND BIG 10 down into the ACC and the BIG 12 who in turn will trickle down into the PAC 12 and the Mountain West etc. The only reason this sucks is the first year will be a rough adjustment but ultimately the talent that takes the field will increase. Only teams who will suffer will be Georgias and Alabamas who can’t horde as much talent. NIL has hit them already and this will continue to increase parity.

Not having as many players is a health concern. This is especially applicable for football. Given the injury rate for this sport and the heavy physical nature of the sport, they should allow walkon or practice / developmental squads for this sport.

I liked what Ed Eyestone said about losing cross country spots. He essentially said that he is going to have to tell more kids out of high school to run at a JC or a school like USU or Weber and then transfer in after they graduate. We have had a lot of success with USU and Weber transfers in football. I would expect that to continue

Perhaps BYU should consider sports at Ricks and Hawaii that feed into BYU. Perhaps some Jr. colleges to supply and make BYU a premier destination.

@@jbktmadsen2946 You mean reconsider. Ricks (now BYU-I) used to be an absolute feeder program for BYU and it was consistently one of the better D2 programs.

If the athletes become “employees” of the school the university should be able to have some control over transfers. I would definitely restrict transfers within the conference, and possibly look at trades instead of just moving.

What world are you living in? In my world, no employer can tell me when I can leave or stay. I love that students take more control over their own destiny.

@timisa58 ALL players are now having to sign contracts that aren't just the "Letters of Intent" signings that we've seen in the past. That's now gone! Signed real contracts and revenue sharing. This is now the NFL, just a different level, however the same concept. Days of yonder year, including this past season, are gone! Hence the idea of being traded comes into play. It's not unrealistic. Just like ANY PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE, CONTRACTS MATTER!!!
@brailsmt23 күн бұрын
The 105 limit seems like a double edged sword. Sure, BYU is going to lose some people, but it's also going to act to even out talent across teams in CFB. There will be 10-20 players that would have sat the bench at every blue blood that will now be in circulation. I think this is a change, but I'm not sure I buy into the idea that it's a bad change.
@malaw51422 күн бұрын
Great point. Texas and Florida and California schools cut back and we can bring in some of those guys.
@DaranTibbetts1072122 күн бұрын
With the cut, this has a trickle down affect. Which goes right to High schools. With high School players wanting to play College ball, but can't go up to play st a major or even mid-level college, or even smaller school by perception. Their dreams will be dashed because there are literally millions of them to go around, but can't fet in because of the cap limit for players at each school. So, players in the past, their dreams are realized. But now, a totally different scenario for all high school players, because of this rule adjustment.

Competitively you have to pare down an additional roster spot or two per position group to pick up transfers. That’s going to hurt, and I don’t envy the coaches in that one bit. But you either do it or fall behind.

Am I getting this right? The NFL only requires 53 but a college team has over 100 players?????!!!!! That is 10 full teams?????! Teams are complaining that it will need to cut 18???? Can you not simply give scholarships to the walk-ons? Surprise surprise, football is a business. It has been for decades. The NIL has made it more fair for the players. If you cannot compete financially, you lose players to other teams. Real world. The parent church of BYU has billions and can easily play along. It's all about money! Churches, sports, ADs, all are in it for the money.
