Are BYU's offensive struggles fixable? If so, how?
@roywall81692 ай бұрын
Not with this coordinator and group of QBs.

@@roywall8169 I'm still hopeful. Especially with the way the defense is playing, I think even small minor adjustments could help BYU have a surprising season.

@@roywall8169 Couldn't agree more!!! The offense has declined downward every year since A-Rod took over as OC. He's awful at calling plays. He's awful at scheming around the offensive talent and he's awful at recruiting as of now A-Rod has zero commits from quarterbacks to be excited about!!!

It’s one thing to be a kicker that hits a couple long ones. It’s something else to be responsible for all 15 of your team’s points. BYU defense made me feel like we can at least try new things on offense until we find what we need, but the sooner the offense figures it out the better.
@saturdayswarriorbyu2 ай бұрын
Haha I didn't think about it that way. And yes, the defense will help cover for the offense. ARod throws in exciting plays, but he also seems to have a hard time adjusting the game plan. Once they started doing designed QB runs, it helped open up the game for them.

Like last year, we didn’t want to believe what we saw vs Sam Houston. But that’s BYU under ARod.
@saturdayswarriorbyu2 ай бұрын
Great point. But we've also seen signs of improvement. The Wyoming game will show us whether or not he can adjust.
@trippint38832 ай бұрын
@saturdayswarriorbyu I struggle with giving ARod any and Retzlaff any credit for anything against Wyoming. Yes Wyoming is an old Rival and they will up their level of play. But it's not going to be B12 caliber play...

@@saturdayswarriorbyu There's no time for hope and seeing if there's improvement in power 4 football... Wilson and Hall are not products of A-Rod. The offense has declined downward ever since A-Rod took over as OC. At BYU the last thing we should be worried about is a quarterback or recruiting a quarterback as of now A-Rod has zero commits from any quarterbacks to be excited about...

It hasn’t been two bad quarters with Jake. It has been 5 bad games.
@saturdayswarriorbyu2 ай бұрын
I more lenient on Jake about last year. I'm more focused on what he does this year and am hopeful we can build on it for next year.
@roywall81692 ай бұрын
Arod is bringing in these QBs. They are not good enough. His recruiting lately has been his biggest failure. Bad play calling is a universal thing in coaching. The worst of the play calling is leaning heavily on the run game when this O line cannot run block. They have proved that over the past two seasons.
@saturdayswarriorbyu2 ай бұрын
Recruiting is a very fair critique of ARod. I do think he seems slow to adjust, but he also been very good at misdirection plays. He's far from perfect, but I don't think getting rid of him fixeds everything.

How many times did we hear this last year?
@saturdayswarriorbyu2 ай бұрын
Which part? Making excuses for the offense? I agree, but there are a lot of signs that the team had improved, so I'm not ready to write them off just yet.
@trippint38832 ай бұрын
@saturdayswarriorbyu the title to your video basically quoting Kalani 'a wins, a win' is what my response is about.... I do think the team has improved greatly in areas... but the signs of an offense that has major flaws and eeking out wins and the excuse proffered of fixing those problems that never seems to happen... obviously I really want to see the Program thrive and be successful. But it's obvious that fixing some of these problems in house hasn't worked and isn't working over the last three seasons...
@brandonl25552 ай бұрын
The play calling is too simplistic 😂 that’s the problem. The run it up the guy with miles play is a perfect example. Miles has never been a between the tackles runner, so why are we running it up the gut with the wrong personnel? Another example is the 3rd and 7 at the end of the game. Arod said they wanted Roberts on the slant…then why the heck are you motioning Davis out when you’ve got 1 on 1 coverage?That pulled the linebacker out and put him in position to defend the slant. Davis didn’t even have anything to do on that play to take the linebacker out of position. That is bad play design and play calling.
@saturdayswarriorbyu2 ай бұрын
Agreed about the play calling, but that decision could've been Jake's, meaning he doesn't understand the offense.
@Shaunskee2 ай бұрын
I'm a die hard BYU fan the win didn't surprise me I've seen over the years. BYU'S defense was fantastic there's nothing more I can say. The offense struggled in saying so when LJ was lost the whole offense seemed out of sorts. Expected he was probably a huge part of the scheme on offense for the game. In saying so I know Jake made some bad decisions I'm not trying to defend him. But, when things happen you half to adjust and I don't think A-Rod is making proper decisions on adjusting for the situation. I'm really hoping that A-Rod can help the offense this week by scheming around the talent on offense for Jake and others involved to succeed...In my opinion this is where BYU failed the most last year. I think A-Rod knows he's on the hot seat deserving but he has to put a game plan in that succeeds. In saying so I have very little faith in A-Rod he might be able to squeeze a win over Wyoming but when conference play starts I'm really nervous. Hoping the best for A-ROD but wouldn't be surprised if he is fired before the end of the season... "IN MY OPINION A YEAR TO LATE" For next year we'll be learning a new offense!!! GO COUGARS!!!
@saturdayswarriorbyu2 ай бұрын
I mostly agree with all of this. I think I have a little more faith in A-Rod than you. Also, he'd have to really bomb to be fired before the season is over.
