The true unsung heroes of game 1 for Nightmare were definitely team Cloak and Dagger; The observer placement and Dark Templar harassment. Mutilating multiple bases, taking down dozens of turrets, slicing up Byun's economy, and keeping tabs on his army while Nightmare's main army continued to apply pressure on Byun's weak points. Not just skillfully won, but intelligently won.

Hell yeah. The ring of observers mid game! and 26:30 DT's pulled the ground army away finally during the long slow siege of up the middle by Byun, and the whole turret push collapsed. Meanwhile putting emphasis on stealing Byun's rich Vespene up north, brilliant!

Nightmare was an absolute unit in that first game. Never seen a protoss handle a terran like that, especially someone like Byun. Definitely top 2 protoss currently.

Loved everything about that first game. Did so many of the things us amateurs wonder why pros don't do more of. Consistent observer usage and micro. Went to tempests instead of being beat up by liberators while fighting with ground. He also picked some exceptional fights.

So sick to see Protoss actually fully outplay the Terran with pure strategy. Like the recent MaxPax stuff, it makes it feel possible even at the highest level against those ghosts, bio, and libs/vikings. DOPE

A real treat watching Nightmare use observers and oracles so consistently. The control of complex army compositions and superb scouting is so rare even among top players.

Not sure I've watched Nightmare before, but I have no idea how they were out mining at about 15:00. Did Byun unbind mules? Terran was up 10 workers and had 7 orbitals. Another unorthodox Protoss showing what the race can do! I've always imagined Carrier/Tempest/Oracle to be Toss's best composition, but you need two keyboards for all the control groups. Tempest, Templar, Oracles, Army, Prism, Observer, Mothership, blink stalkers, disruptors. Even if all I had to do was manage the spell casters, I don't think my 150APM is enough.

Byun was building a lot of stuff at the time, so a good number of workers would have been tied up, and some may have been idle as well. Protoss doesn't really have that problem. Then the last round of mules way well have run out, and he just hadn't dropped fresh ones. Happens.

1:08:34 Something I was appreciating was how the aggressive prodding for like 5 mins meant that the medevacs were continually out of energy. Obviously bad in its own right for the bio army, but even got 2 of them killed 'for free' because of the A-move.

What a beautiful contrast with Reynor's Protoss just a few days ago. Where that was sheer, awesome power overwhelming, Nightmare played with elegant, tactical precision, everything having a clear and deliberate purpose. Wonderful games.

48:26 this is why I don't understand people not leaving SCVs on auto repair, 5-6 SCVs sitting around doing nothing, and not all the Medivacs are even repaired. For us mid to low leaguers, keeping SCVS on auto repair so we don't have to micro is essential Terran gameplay.

In game one ByuN could have tryed the rat game or a clash with thors. Yamato BC transition was a bit too late, it's good to setup a grindy late game but not in late response(you want use the spell more than randomly once per ship).

What an incredible game 1 from nightmare. Deserved that win and byun really wasn't sure how to respond and tried to just go hell for leather once he realised he was so far behind. Not overcommitting to stalkers and carriers. Using zealots well and mixing them in. Countering air using tempests and using storm to cover against bio rushes. Forcing attention and apm by splitting up of DT from multiple angles. Truly well played. Also I feel super vindicated as all the stuff I've been saying about how protoss needs to play in my 'twitch chat GM' comments were shown to be true here. Edit - No disruptors, not spamming stalkers but isntead using the high tech protoss units to proper effect. As long as protoss are over reliant on stalker/disruptor they will struggle. Then people will complain about balance. Stalkers are just bad units all round, they are meant to be a stopgap/fill up the supply. Disruptors are great until the top level where the terrans are good enough to dodge almost every single shot making the disruptors a huge supply/resource waste.

I absolutely suck at the game so my question is stupid. Why do protoss never build forward shield batteries when attacking? (I only play against the computer so like I said, stupid question I am sure) Just something for your army to retreat back to.

THe biggest thing that this protoss did was not throw their army away, and kept harassing teh front line and retreating, and thus the weakness of a turtle terran, Is a turtle protoss, that uses their army to position themselves better. The tempest were used like late game mitigation teh value of range... The bc, dunk, didn't make sense since Yomato has hte longest range in the game, pre scan and use, its a 9 range - almsot infinite once enabled... would of liekd ot see it more. 2 minutes not keeping track of what protoss was doing so byun was very un productive in map vision where protoss was very active in gaining key vision. Poor TPM placement, need a bit of over lap, and walk way. The first engagement was great, all teh carriers were gone. The tempests were good, but maruaders really didn't help. been better with amrines in teh bc push... he didnt' do any drops,, to harass, which would of discovered those bases also... So if you a terran in teh same position... 10 supply harass is super late game, 8 marines and medivac, 3/3 with stim, its jsut to die and can wipe out a nexus a fairly short order around 10 second ish and probes, but its the aibltiy to split up their army also... Also, byun just seemed like he failed ot lift and move important buildings and failed to do what terrans do best, hyper mine and save and move on, this would of allwoed him to significantly attack those mineral nodes faster. IEL: he had enough mules to mine out the right side in less then 3 minutes, what you mine today, can't be taken tommorow is the old motto of hte mine core. lol, jokes. This would of changed his position ot up north or take more southern... Aggresive mining out strats with terran is better than overscanning. Ghosts are great as scouting clocked units, because it will often reveal cannons, or obs locations. meh... I think byun thought they were on equal mineral terms.. but that rich vespene theft is so costly...

As a sc2 race-agnostic fan, with 12 thousand games as Random, dare I say it? Tempests shouldnt be able to hit buildings unless they are cannons / turrets / spore / spine. 38:01 lame.
