I am ashamed as a native West Virginian to have never heard this band until this week. I was driving home from work the other day listening to Liquid Metal on Sirius and this song was on and I was like "did I hear him say something about WV?" Then today Jose Mangin said that he was going to see them tonight. Byzantine hits hard for real.

This band played at the Tool "Lateralus" cd release party at National Record Mart in 2001. Way back before they even had a drummer. They've been representing WV forever in the metal world. At least you know now :P

That's when I discovered them. I went to see Lamb of God at the Soundfactory in Charleston. And they came out and destroyed McCorkle Avenue! I was like, "where the hell did my face go"??? That had to be the biggest upstage I've ever seen. Lamb of God sounded tame as shit after Byzantine' s set. Saw them two more times that year. Phenomenal!!!
