Today we take look at why your “double under” guard pass fails and what you can do about it. The double under (or double scoop) pass starts with both of your arms underneath your partner’s legs, then usually involves a stacking action which either exposes the back or leads to a top-side pin. The three most common issues here are a) getting caught with one arm in and one arm out, leading to the triangle; b) inability to lift your partner’s heavy legs, tiring you out and creating problems with your angle; and c) your partner scooting away from you, elongating your arms and setting you up for submissions. We tackle all three of these problems with a few adjustments to grip, posture and angle, and a reminder that sometimes you have to adjust your strategy when conditions aren’t optimal for the pass. Thanks for watching.
