This cockpit video was shot with the aid of the Transport Division at the Wing F7 Såtenäs in Sweden during their display at the Military Air Show at Malmen 2012.
The total duration of the video is about 43 minutes, so bring out a beer, or some non-alchohol alternative beverage, and enjoy this cockpit video from one of the Swedish
C-130, or TP 84 Hercules as it is called in Sweden!
And... don't be afraid to subscribe! :-))

I loved this video. I was a EC130 ABCCC flying status crew chief starting in 1987. Being in the flight deck on take off and landings before I notice the crew was very professional. I could tell they where performing ops checks also did a end of runway runup prior to taking off. Pilot and Copilot looked so young. Not going to say which ones but some of these comments are nuts. I would fly around the world with these men. Thanks for the video.

Those procedures are charming, thats the main reason why we love Hercules. I remember standing behind close to the engines when pilots would put from "run" to ground idle, engines would clearly pant making a lovely music. Thanks for the answer!!!

Hi Joe and Ron! Well, regarding the audio... I agree. I would've loved to record the communication between the crew members on the C-130! At the time I had not time for this. Good idea though! :-) Regarding the camera angle, I don't agree. We needed to se the pilot and his face when operating the C-130, as well as as much of the panel as possible. This was a good compromise I think. I would appreciate your opinions on a better placing of the camera in a situation like this, really. Any thoughts? Take care! /Tille, TeamM

I believe Sweden and New Zealand operate the oldest C-130Hs currently in service. Those two countries were one of the first customers for the H model in 1965/1966. Two of the Swedish examples have been retired from service.

You do that with rudder, the crosswind correction goes in with aileron, so on take off you deploy full aileron into the wind (Coming from left, raise the left), and as the ailerons become effective, you slowly take it out

Great video! Engine sound, plus wind noise, great. I need to get a recurrent in YTB because the older "Reply" link no longer shows on some comments. But for the comment on the "small" steering wheel to steer a large airplane, the wheel has been used from large airplanes to small corporate jets for decades. The nose gear turns far a greater ratio than the steering wheel turns, plus hydraulics involved, makes it work. Most large aircraft have some interconnection for steering with the rudders pedals, but it's normally limited to under 10 degrees L/R of center (for straight taxing, or takeoff and landings), whereas the steering wheel turning radius can be as much as 75 degrees L/R of center on some aircraft.

He selected "Low Speed Ground Idle". Standard procedure for these engines is to idle for 2 minutes in low speed before shutdown, so most crews just select it as they taxi in since low speed is still enough torque to move the aircraft on the ground.

Thanks for sharing! At 8:53, as the t/o thrust was set, why was the pilot´s initial input to the left? Was it due to a crosswind or perhaps a p-factor correction?

Foxdie is correct, but also there is structural integrity to consider as a Hercules is pressurised and the forces on a single screen would probably be to great. Bear in mind that Hercules being a military aircraft are quite often shot at so you wouldn't want to lose the windscreen from a sinle strike.

@groad6551

It looks like a VFR (visual flight rules) flight. If you notice the pilot is glancing at the instrument panel and at the same time keeping his eyes outside. You can't be looking at the panels all the time specially when you are flying that low. You have to watch out for other airplanes in the area and obstructions. Pilots will rely solely on instruments at night or in poor visibility or IFR (instrument flight rules).

I flew the Hercules C130 for 18 years and I loved that old bird. Too bad, the pilot didn't kill three engines and perform a one engine landing, now that's a lot of fun. It's a shame you didn't have a Y-connector you could have put on the co-pilot's/FO's headset cord for the audio between the crew. I trained many a C-130 Jock on how to fly this plane under many different scenarios. Fin stalls, wind shear, engine outs, and many other training scenarios were interesting to watch even experienced pilot's fly. You should have also put the camera behind the co-pilot/FO facing forward with a partial view of the crew, as well as a view of the instrument panel, throttle quadrant, and windshield. I realize you may have unprepared for this ride, but your set-up was extremely poor for this long of a video.

Sir, I thank you sincerely for your very insightful comments! I would have loved to record the comm. But this was an opportunity for us which arised with very short notice. Regarding the positioning of the camera, well... I wanted to see the faces of the crew, and if we where to do an interview with the pilot, a shot of him and his crew as a b-roll would be a perfect shot for us. We only had this one opportunity to film this and, to be honest, if I were to do it again, I would place the camera in the same position. But, again, I'm so glad to read your comments. And I truly respect them, as well as your professional background. This footage was also used in our DVD-series "Air Show Special", and you can purchase it at www.teamm.se.
