From my perspective as a non-American who has visited nearly every state in the union, I find is fascinating how very well The Old Camera Guy captures the true essence of America in his photos. This video is a perfect example; it really feels like America.

A lot of the newer members of the film community may not be aware that most of the big film companies from the 80s onwards produced chromogenic films, so well done for informing folk of the now sadly discontinued Kodak version, your shots as ever looked great. I've used Ilfords XP1 and XP2 many times, they were really convenient to use back in the days of 1 hour labs. I only recently got my hands on several expired Kodak BW400 and have been well pleased with the results shot at iso100 and 200 depending on expiry date. Ive also shot fuji Neopan 400CN and most surprisingly still viable 40 year old Agfapan vario XL at iso 50, I still have a couple of rolls of the agfa and a roll of Konica 400 monochrome to shoot. These films can also respond well with yellow orange and red filters just like more traditional Black and White films. Your enthusiasm as ever shines through with your videos and I always look forward to seeing them on Sunday nights

Wow -- more great small-town Ohio shots -- and yep, the BW400 really holds up with age, it doesn't get terribly grainy, and maintains a midtone smoothness missing from most traditional B&W films. I have 8 rolls in my freezer -- but you are reminding me that they aren't getting used! XP-2 is good also, but I think lacks a bit of the soft-greys of the BW400....

Nice photos. I remember the costco days of this film. Half the roll came out sepia and the other half regular black and white. Their machines didn't know how to read it.I still have some of this film.

I loved this film. I was disappointed when Kodak discontinued it. Developing C41 at a film processing place is cheaper than doing the same thing with regular black and white film in my area.

Great video and nice shots. I miss the days of that relatively inexpensive one hour development. I worked at a Qualex lab (which is a subsidiary of Kodak) in Target for a couple of years back in the day.

I used to love BW400CN -- as well as its predecessor, T400CN -- back in the day. I like to use B&W in toy cameras a lot, and the Kodak C-41 varieties always gave good results. I found a random roll in my stash and used it in a toy camera recently. I was so happy with my results I just got another 10 rolls off eBay.

Great timing on this video as I just recently discovered this film. I’m not sure how I missed it back in the day. I think I was just hooked on Tri-X and Panatomic-X that I didn’t look at anything else. Young and dumb. But I’ve been scooping up rolls here and there lately and I really dig it.

Great shots, you can't tell that it was 10 plus years out of date and what a great gift. As for Ilford I quite like the look of XP-2 and have shot it now and again. Being a bit thrifty XP-2 was always an advantage as C-41 film costs less to process at the lab I use.

This was my favorite monochrome film when it was available. Any lab could process it. If the lab processes this film correctly and scans the film correctly, there should be no color cast to the film. Back when people shot this film for prints, labs had to set the printer correctly to avoid a color cast to the prints with this film.

If I remember correctly, I was always impressed by the relatively fine grain of this film for being a 400 ISO film. I still have a few rolls of it stashed away in my freezer from back in the Costco days. Do you have an opinion about Fuji Superia Reala 100? Even though it’s been discontinued also, that is my all-time favorite 35mm & 120mm stock.

I used to use XP when shooting model portfolios. I could shoot 10 to 20 rolls, then send my film to the lab and have it back in a few hours ready to contact printed the next morning. It main benfit was time. If I had the time I would use Tmax or HP 5.

I’m a big fan of HP5. I love the look of Tri-X, but I don’t shoot it that often because it doesn’t dry flat, so it’s pretty tough to scan.
