Hello aaron.. found your site the other day. I think its the best around. Believe me I've been looking around on you tube. I'm a beginner. 61 years old. Decided to learn the trumpet, also have a flugelhorn. Your site is the one where I will learn to play. Thank you for all the content. Steve from mass.

I just graduated high school a few days ago, and unfortunately never had the opportunity to perform in any professional capacity (although I did spend a lot of my time befriending the jazz band). I've been teaching myself theory and playing my horn everyday for three years now and I really appreciate your videos :)

Hey Aaron.I am Pasteur from Kenya.You are really great in the trumpet.I am just from learning chromatic scales in my music class and I thought it would be wonderful to learn how to play it on the trumpet.So I got to the internet and came across this.I started playing the trumpet six years ago when in class four and I have been progressing but I do admit coming across your channel has given me more interest to play the trumpet.So I guess you are now my trainer.Ooh....and Btw I love your trumpet coz it is silver.I really love playing silver trumpets coz I find them unique.Once again I have to admit you are really good.👏👏👏👏❤

I’m having difficulty with my mouth position, buzzing etc. I have tried repeatedly but I have problems forming my lips correctly. I also can’t whistle so I do not know if this is related. Can you do a video on lip formation for playing trumpet?

Hello thanks for the lessons! 😊 , do you kick out the third valve when going Bellow c?
@TheBlackTrumpeter4 жыл бұрын
Your welcome! You kick out the third valve tuning slide for: C#/Db below the staff D below the staff Eb/D# below the staff These notes have a tendency to sound sharp without using the tuning slide...even if you’ve tuned the trumpet to play C in the staff in tune using your main tuning slide.

Whats the purpose of moving the tuning slides?
@TheBlackTrumpeter4 жыл бұрын
To help bring the notes in tune because the tendency of those notes are slightly out of tune on pretty much all mass-produced trumpets
@TheBlackTrumpeter4 жыл бұрын
KNUT I can’t speak for them but I use it because I don’t want to work harder to get my notes in tune. Using the slides makes helps me play in tune better than not using them at all.

tips on how to remember each note and their fingering?
@TheBlackTrumpeter3 жыл бұрын
Singing or saying the note names (out loud) as you use the correct fingering while you learn a new scale or song. This can be done without playing the trumpet. Associate the sound of the note and how it looks on a sheet of music with the fingering every day. Drill yourself by writing the note name and fingering underneath or above each note of a scale or piece of music until you don’t need to anymore.

@pedrobambinoperez25723 жыл бұрын
This is the Bb chromatic scale. Why do you call it C? I’m an absolute beginner, I genuinely ask
@TheBlackTrumpeter3 жыл бұрын
I call it C because the trumpet is known as a transposing instrument. You’re right. It is the Bb chromatic scale but it’s considered the Bb CONCERT chromatic scale. When trumpets play the Bb CONCERT chromatic scale, we actually read the notes of a C chromatic scale...which is a major 2nd up from CONCERT pitch.
@pedrobambinoperez25723 жыл бұрын
@@TheBlackTrumpeter but what happens if you play with a band? You all agree to play a certain note, and you’re a whole step lower?
@TheBlackTrumpeter3 жыл бұрын
If you’re playing in a band, then everyone will be speaking the language of concert pitch. Transposing instruments like trumpet, saxophone and clarinet will have to do some math and understand how those notes, key signs and chords transpose to them...so everyone is playing the same thing.
@TheBlackTrumpeter3 жыл бұрын
The trumpet is a whole step higher than concert pitch. So if the band says we’re playing in the key of D, then trumpets are playing in the key of E. E is a whole step up from D.
@pedrobambinoperez25723 жыл бұрын
@@TheBlackTrumpeter gotcha! Great explanation man thanks. Tell me if I’m wrong: the real key a trumpet makes without fingers is a Bb. But we will call it a C, so a whole step higher. Hence the necessary adjustment with the band. Now, why complicate things like that and not just call it a Bb?
