I can imagine workers at the Honda, Nissan and Toyota plants in the UK watching this open mouthed and totally bewildered at what they are seeing !

I know that my dad used to come home knackered after a shift here in the seventies and eighties. When it was up and running it was bluddy hard work.

That maestro van reminds me of the ones we had at BT I remember one lad had to use a sponge to empty water from the driver's foot well every time it rained (it was a brand new van) he had it in the MT workshop at BT but the could never find the fault -think it was a door seal ? Anyway as he was an ex army lad he just drilled hole in the floor -great video

Sad to see, all those different lives. Not saying there weren’t a number factors that led to this inevitability, but very little large British manufacturing left in the numbers who work at large factories. These sorts of places had social clubs, football teams, Christmas parties and the and other things that made them an integral part of the community which meant many workers socialised and worked together.

That dark green van look like it could be for the Forestry Commission. I used to drive one.

Such good looking cars. What I don’t understand is that they were made up to M reg and this was December 1992. M would be 1st August 1994 to 31st July 1995. I heard that the Bulgarian Maestros were better built. They had much later registrations.

They were built on a single production line at Longbridge after Cowley closed when the Germans killed them off.

And just like that hundreds of even thousands of people are unemployed, the product of militant trade unions and incompetent management. After the celebrations and a long Christmas break I'm sure 1993 wouldve been full of stress and pity. Seeing the sign that dates the production facilities from 1971 to 1992 must mean that the maestro/montego were built using the same old equipment as the marina/ital which would explain alot

@@marshalllucky What can I say, some people really believed the "built by robots" thing... didn't take much but a few shots of a foundry, then a conveyor, and maybe 1 robot cell. It looks impressive if you don't know better.

@@numberstation just shows with all the money that the government has managed to magic up during this pandemic that in comparison to what it would have cost to keep these factories and marques alive, it was small beer. Instead the site is flattened and the people working there now are on minimum wages. small minded and short sighted. The french propped up renault and look whats happened ...still going and making money.

After watching this, go watch BMW or Mercedes build a car. The problem of why we have no British car industry will answer itself.
