C.Crane CC Radio 3 Radio Evening AM

The C.Crane CC Radio 3 AM FM Stereo Weather 2m HAM Portable Radio is a great radio for strong stations during the Evening. DXing with it may prove a bit of a challenge, the auto tuning takes a bit to get used to. It does have 1kHz tuning to help get away from adjacent stations. Its built in 200mm Ferrite Antenna has huge pulling power, and requires no passive loops. The Speaker Audio is a treat while listening to Talk Radio.

Overall, if you are looking for the best Daytime AM receiver, you have found it :) It performs on par with my GE Superadios, and Panasonic RF-2200. If you want an awesome Evening AM receiver, the original CC Radio is a Monster.

I have one and itis the OG one. and it was a gift from my grandmother. I really like it, sounds great, and has WB, which I love. I switched it to be my headboard radio and the put the DX-440 as the desk radio.

Hey todderbert i have a loop antenna crystal radio. It works as an all-in-one antenna reception gain on radios, crystal radio, transmitting. You should try to build one they are portable not requiring a ground, antenna, the loop is the receiver. Plus, I use it to receive 1430 AM Stereo, WRDN, Durand, WI on my Sony Srf A300

I just got mine night before last. 15 minutes before C. Crane closed, I decided to run in and get a radio. I was thinking about the EP pro, but as I'm there, the gal said that the radio3 gets about 10% more distance than the lesser model. I figured, what the heck, why not and went for it. I asked why they went away from the Sangean radios and she said Sangean makes their higher end 2E and radio3. But the cc skywave ssb is made by a different company. I forget who she said it was, never heard of them. But they make a fine radio for C Crane. Bob won't sell a radio that he wouldn't buy himself.

Hi..New Subscriber here. i just started getting into finding radio stations.. well actually when i was young back in the early 1970s. I remember me and my dad would spend hours on our old philco am radio. So ive decided to take up this hobby again. This radio seems awesome. I just purchased one on Amazon last night . Cant wait till it gets delivered .Wow picking up all these distant stations. I currently have a RETEKESS 629 , which i wasnt too satisfied with. The C.Crane 3 seems amazing. And your knowledge of where each frequency is located is amazing. I bet you can even get California stations on this radio. I live in Alabama so im not sure what stations ill be pulling in. But searching for radio stations is alot of fun.

Great video! I think I'll go with the 2E. $30 seems a little bit steep for just Bluetooth connectivity. Especially when the speaker is tuned more for voice and not music. I guess I'd go with the "3" if I was primarily listening to podcasts though.

It's a pity CCRANE doesn't make a shortwave radio this size. It would sound amazing. I have no doubt it would be pretty expensive also.

Todd, I know this an evening band scan of the AM band (which is great), but I have a serious question. BTW, I just got my CC radio 3, and I am enjoying it. What I want to know, and this might take some time, but which radio ( Elton field or CC Radio 3 ) are better on FM? I’m the type of person, who will listen right up to the edge of the signal, until there is no signal. This goes for FM and AM, as I love to DX into the mud, and see what hear (or the limits of what the radio can hear). Now Jay Allen says for the Eton field, “nothing beats it on FM”. I want to know, are these radios equal or is the Eton more sensitive into the farthest depths of the Abyss, were it can hear stations other radios can’t? If they are equally matched, than you saved me from buying another radio. I want the best of the best portable for FM dxing, and want to know, can the Eton field hear stations that the CC Radio can’t? ,

The Eton Elite Field is the Better FM receiver compared to the CC Radio 3. Due to its longer whip antenna, and DSP tech. The CC Radio 3 is king of AM. The best portable FM receiver I have tested is the Sangean PR-D12, followed by the D15, and D19.

so is this better than the 2 e? i have a pro and its ok looking for a little better reception i dont think there is a big difference not sure if i should waste the money .i always see bad reviews on ccrane quality conrtol and performance since they became chinese .sometimes no name cheap radios will out preform the more expensive models.?? the 2e you reviewed seemed to preform better not sure thanks

It has 2m HAM, but no Shortwave. The 2m HAM band works if you have repeaters you can pick up.

Solar included on most radios is a novelty. just enough to keep the battery peaked. you would need to invest in some portable solar panels with USB outputs that could charge a radio, such as the Tecsun PL-330: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lauziJutpd1pfdU

This radio as of today is priced at $210.00 YIKES!! That's really high for a radio that's not even SSB. For this price go for a radio that has SSB. Also, CCrane radios as of late have seemed to have a ton of defective products across the entire line. A lot of complaints about DOA or just giving up the ghost after a few months of service. CCrane WAS a US based manufacture and made very high quality radios in the 90's and up until the mid 2000's. What went wrong? Well, they closed down US manufacture of there radios' and move to China where they were manufactured for a fraction of the cost but....They NEVER dropped the price so they increased profits by a lot and giving the consumer a cheaper quality radio with almost nonexistent QC. They regretted that when the factory that was manufacturing the radios (RedSun) decided to just all but clone the original Skywave and call it like 4 different things like the RADIWOW R-108. What did they expect???? China doesn't care about patent laws. My advice to CCrane is to move back to the US, design quality radios, and manufacture quality radios in the US!

I could not agree more, not to mention the earlier editions of this same radios display blanking out on owners who spent good money, even some of these more recent have that same defect. My CCRadio 2 display went in 6 Months my complaint was greeted with a fee to fix.

this is true i have been reading many bad reviews of ccrane entire line as of late .and ccrane has gone downhill and they dont care its all about them not the customer these chinese ccranes could be half junk half good with no quality control whick will ruin ccrane as time goes on there will continue to have negative reviews . a pity i have been using ccrane products about 20 years i have a ep pro and the ferrite antenna which are pretty good but not as good as the old ge super radio ccrane has always fallen a little short but were still pretty good now days not so sure seems they are failing ,thinking about this 3 or the 2 e but 2 e has a few bad reviews .used is the way to go its not worth 200.00 no way

So, when you turn on the radio you lose the clock? You're kidding me. I have a Sangean ATS 818 purchased from C. Crane prior to the development of the CCRadio. It's been my bed stand radio for nearly 30 years. I'm trying to justify an upgrade...

I also have the ATS818. The one without the cassette. I wanted the better speaker. Living in Fortuna, I have the advantage of actually going to C Crane. When I bought my ATS818 Bob told me that he could remove the soft mute for $30. I asked how. He smiled and wouldn't tell me. But he said if I bought the shop manual and wanted to do it myself, he'd tell me which wire to snip. I wanted the manual. It was an easy fix. I still use the radio. And what a receiver! I've looked for reviews of it, just out of curiosity. It seems they're not very common.
