Featuring my oc Lane.
I would love to hear how you interpret his story from this video and see how close you get!
This was more of a passion project and content I really would like to do more of. Since this has copyrighted music (which I felt described him almost perfectly) I don’t expect this to get picked up by the algorithm nor get any views. But I hope for those who are interested more in Lane stick around! I really want to do more for him!
As you should already know by now, I have wanted to move on from drawing “pretty girls” for a long time now. I want to draw more of my other characters. But it's a hard cycle to break from, especially since 1. They're fun to draw. 2. It brings food to the table.
So, I know people will judge whatever I make. That's just life. But I value those who have supported me and will support me no matter where I go with my art. This is not a sudden change, but I will gradually move away from what I have been doing for the past years. I don’t really like looking back at my old work, and I wouldn't want to be remembered as the KZbinr who draws only “pretty girls”. (But don't worry, Sploot will stay. Just going more to the cute direction haha). I want to go back to my roots. I feel like I got sidetracked and trapped.
I value feedback and commentary on my work since that's the main reason I do art. I love to hear what people like about my characters and their story.
And well, the “pretty girl” content doesn't really spawn insightful commentary. Almost nothing of value that drives me forward. And that's the main reason I want to move on. I appreciate the attention, but it's not the kind of attention I really want.
It's a nice dopamine rush at the time, but it has no substance for the long term. I have had this existential art crisis for a while, and still figuring out what exactly I want to do. And oh man, I want to do a lot of things. But I am only one person behind all these characters. I only have a limited time to do everything I want. And it's not easy when you're struggling with self-identity in art.

It seems like Lane here is unable to feel pain and deals with alexithymia. He doesn't understand pain or emotion and it frustrates and confuses him. This appears to lead him down a dark path of human experimentation in order to come to an understanding of what things must be like for 'normal' people. He may or may not understand the weight of his actions simply because he doesn't understand the pain and suffering he is putting others through for the sake of his own research. This is just what I was able to pick up on from the video, but I could be wrong about some things

I reached this same interpretation as well. Though the girl being the only other person we see (for more than a frame) is definitely giving a hint of those old Yandere Sim vibes. (god I'm really saying that in 2023 huh?) Maybe she's also playing a part in his motivations? Trying to learn how to feel so he can give love to someone who he thinks deserves it? I dunno tho, theorizing and critical analysis are above my paygrade.😅

i think he's got a tad bit of chronic apathy and a severe lack in empathy as well, as alexithymia on its own doesn't mean you don't feel, it just means you struggle to interpret, recognize and describe what you feel. since his own emotions seems a bit... off, and allat, i doubt it's *just* alexithymia

My little theory about Lane's backstory is that he was never able to feel emotions nor pain like a typical person. But then as he got older, he starts becoming fasniated with how the human mind and body works, how someone can feel pain and emotions while he has trouble conveying them and understanding them. He wanted to go to university to study and learn more about his fascinations. But in the meantime, he secretly experiments on people, disecting them and unfolding the mysterious nature of the pyche and body. Idk, I'm probably wrong 😂

So happy for you tbh, most artists never get out of the "drawing pretty girls" cycle after getting tripped and trapped in the short term rush of it. All the content is lovely either way but thats coming from a long term fan who sees value in the work and characters, way past simply being pretty and apparently suggestive, speaking from experience, not everyone really bothers to look past that and therefor ignore the seriousness behind the content and characters. Obviously I havent watched the video yet but I am very mych looking forward to it! You sound passionate over it as it is, been a while since we read that tone on this chanel. I dont know much about this character in particular but I'm exited to start studying them more after the videos release.

I JUST SAW IT AND IT HONESTLY OVERTHREW ANY EXPECTATIONS I HAD PREVIOUSLY?? first of all the animation and backgrounds, topped off with the editing and p e r f e c t music is all magnificent. I adore how I went from not knowing anything about her at all to feeling so deeply connected seeing how this character went through their life confused with what most would consider so normal, displaying no pain or discomfort to their injuries is so interesting to me, maybe that’s what could have lead this character down the surgical path as they grew up? (Do correct me if I’m wrong on the pronouns please) with a mix of curiosity and lack of genuine emotion apart from maybe sadistic pleasure, or maybe simply an extreme case of curiosity? I gotta say I love the designs too, and strangely enough, how well they fit into each background, it’s such a massive improvement, there was so much put into every scene there’s really no room to grow bored, will definitely be rewatching this a few times to try and understand what’s happening some more.

I also find it really sad to see that many people are only interested in our drawings when we draw "beautiful" muscular and sexy boys or "beautiful" sexy girls with "beautiful shapes" I also see it often on my account while I have other super interesting ocs that might please but have less shapes. I'm guessing he has alexithymia (a.k.a. Emotional blindness meaning you can't feel emotionally) and CIPA (not being able to feel pain) and he becomes fascinated with mental and physical pain experimenting on people and wanting to know what it feels like. Yes I looked the words and definitions up.

I have a story for him, I think he has no pain receptors in his nervous system (shown by his hand and stick in the leg), due to this he was seen as scary, different, odd. He had "possibly" gotten his college degree and due to him seeing love and sadness, decides he wants that same love and sadness. His old school mates are a testament for that, and due to him not gaining love and pain, he experiences it via his "test subjects." He later takes this further and goes back to his college and wants others to experience his pain, both metaphorically, and physically, both of which, he enjoys proudly.

Amazing! My thoughts: Dude cannot feel pain. Hence why he doesn't notice the splinter in his foot, or why he pinches himself so hard he bleeds. His parents die, he becomes orphaned. Sees people around him react to touch, but doesn't understand it himself. So he studies. And operates on a live body. Once he's done an operation, he realizes that increasing his understanding allows him to feel something, hence the smile at the end.

That description is such a nice insight on your own experience as an artist, and more recently as a very well known one on the internet. It's easy to understand why you'd get more into drawing stuff like pretty girl characters cause just like you said, you like them and they also bring attention, views, and support. However, I'd be lying if I said I couldn't be happier to hear these news. I can't imagine how stressful it must be to deal with such a large audience, while also doubting on the kind of stuff you wanna put out to the world. Ofc it wouldn't be wrong if you wanted to keep making that kind of content, but the one thing that I believe separates you from many, many artists, are your stories. You've got an unbelievably creative mind, your character design is connected to the world building, you take these stories seriously without being pretentious, and you clearly have fun and are very passionate about what you make. Of course no matter what you do, your skills will still be incredible and your personal style will be one of the most memorable I've personally encountered on the internet, but knowing we'll get at least a glimpse of your creative storytelling is super exciting. I wish you the best, and most importantly, that you never stop creating, never feel pressured to fit a certain mold in the art world, and that you never stop enjoying and having fun creating. Ive been invested in your content for awhile now! I had forgotten how i first found it, i think off of a Sploot video, but i immediately became invested in your work. Not just for pretty/suggestive girls, but because your art holds a lot of emotions. the designs, scene composition and overall mood was so nostalgicly pleasant? like it was so eerie yet fun to watch, loved every second of it! and thank you for the video description, i read descriptions all the time and yours was so relatable. I think an artist should do whatever their soul drives them to do, that's the point of art. When creation feels like a soulless treadmill there's honestly no point, and people are able to understand when the artist was thrilled and inspired to make their work, it's far more valuable than any five-second pretty picture. That's just my opinion of course, but I just deeply relate to what you said in the description. Always stay yourself, I would love to see more of your personal work in the future

Girl DAMN Anet I've always supported you regardless of what you animate and draw. I'd rather see you draw something that you enjoy doing than support you doing something you dislike. Honestly I'll support you either way, but I'd rather support the happiest you and not the you that leaves you feeling unhappy and semi-empty. You do you and what *you* want to do, we will support you 100%.
