Chui Chai Nataraj
Presented as part of a show on important rishis in Thai classical theater by Seree Vangnaitham and Company on January 23, 1987 at the Bangkok Bank Musical Art Center.
The dance portrays a scene from "The Origin of Dance," in which Shiva and Vishnu take the form of a tapasa and a tapaswini, respectively, in order to subdue a group of rishis who violate the laws of the gods.
On completing the mission, Shiva celebrated by dancing, and according to Hindu legends that was the first time dance was performed on earth.
Master Seree Vangnaitham, National Artist of Thailand, composed the text for the dance.
Choreography is by Mrs. Lamoon Yamakupt.
Dancers: Somrat Thongtae (as Shiva in disguise), Vantanee Moungboon (Vishnu in disguise)
