Micah understands the bigger picture here. Fields had 2 different GMs. One entirely screwed up the Bears and Fields situation. The other really liked Fields but when we’re talking about contracts (plus this being a potential generational talent) how could he pass on that situation? If Caleb is a bust, less people will blame Poles than if Fields was another year bust.
@Richard-gw2lr
@Richard-gw2lr Ай бұрын
Can we stop calling Fields a generational talent? Dude is a bust. It isn't going to work. He can't understand an NFL offense nor defense. He truly needs to run out of the pocket in order for things to work. So basically defenses just need to close off the edge and make him throw. Game set match

Micah is spot on. Fields was drafted by a GM who put the Bears into a massive hole. The only way for the new GM to pull them out of that hole was to trade whatever talent they did have and essentially tank for capital for a couple of season.

Yes they added DJ Moore who is a good receiver obviously, but purdy and tua have 1) offensive lines and 2) organizations that are not playing musical chairs with their head coaches and coordinators. This is the stability that CJ is eluding to. It's like a group of people going to work and you constantly change leadership over and over, and then the company is like "hey we've decided to add a new agent, account manager, etc." without having the leadership in place. Is justin without fault in this? No, but we can't sit here and say adding DJ moore is supposed to solve anything. Plus, tua and purdy have way more weapons than Fields does. But also Purdy showed brilliance in the off season before all of the noise he made. Kyle even called it out Purdy was better than Trey and Jimmy. Also look Purdy might be a QB who can won multiple rings by the end of his career. Also niners doesn't have a O line my man if you watch football you would know such a simple fact. People believe because we have Trent we have a stacked O line. We are a bottom middle tier O line at best. Purdy is able to scramble 90% of the time because that is what he excels at. Fields doesn't know how to read defenses and can't throw dimes. Fields just isn't a star. He can be a backup definitely. He might be able to pick up some extra wins while a QB goes down. But anybody with a brain knows fields isn't doing anything at the helm. Its like saying Jimmy G can go start on Kansas City and replicate what mahomes can do.

@@johnostro7153 you forgot to mention the part where Fields just wasn't good in own respects. Turning down open receivers, holding onto the ball longer than anyone, turning over the football more than anyone else since he was drafted, throwing a flat-out inaccurate football, etc. There are currently four starting QBs who were either drafted or signed by the same regime. Teams want their guy. Love and Fields situations aren't remotely comparable and they fall under different representations. Mario Nunez won't settle for his clients. Theres a reason he was traded for a 6th. I watched every Fields game, rooting for him year after year and he cannot read a defence at all or throw over the middle. Tremendous athlete and runner but a bottom 10 qb. Still tons of potential and i hope he tears it up in Pittsburg. If Fields was "the guy" the bears would gladly trade away the number 1 for an even bigger haul last year and continue to build around Fields. Then he makes $40+ million in 2025 and the Bears have to get rid of some of the guys they picked up in 2024 to get better. What's Fields going to do with great receivers? He doesn't keep his eyes downfield long enough when he senses pressure. He drops his eyes and begins to look for a hole to run in! I liked Fields athleticism, but he can't process through progressions quickly in the pocket and stares down his hot receiver too long. Even if Marvin Harrison Jr. was his #2, he would hardly ever get the ball because Justin doesn't look off #1 quick enough. By the time he progressed to #2, the coverage would have caught back up already and is no longer open. This is why only one receiver last year had a productive year because most of Justin's throws were to his #1 target on those plays!

@@joeanderson444 they worked on fixing the OL for CW and not for Fields. I watched the games. The OL was patchwork. The OL was constantly collapsing.( Most from the blindside). I analyzed this on most pass plays. Another thing is the awful route combinations. Getsy designed routes that didn't get separation. Former Qb, JT O'Sullivan has commented on this. Getsy was a horrible Inexperienced OC, who never called plays in the NFL. Fields' "processing" is fine. That's just a new way to say he's not smart, which would be a lie. And in terms of money....what do you think is gonna happen when CW's rookie contract is up? Ownership could've done a Jordan Love type contract with Fields when he time came. Ownership has to quit being cheap. This resetting of contracts with Qb's has to stop. Overall... Poles always wanted his own QB... regardless. This was unfortunate for Fields.

The crazy thing is, Fields career might be over now. He isnt going to start in Pittsburg over Wilson. Now his contract is up. Do they sign Fields? If they do it has to be at a backup price and contract. He could maybe one day play as the starter but the chances are slim. I fully expect Pittsburg to draft a QB in 2025. The Bears totally screwed him. He had no talent around him and Luke Getsy sucked as a Offensive Coordinator. I get drafting Caleb because of the money but I really feel like Fields was hurt by this team. Although, even backups are still millionaires so its not like he is losing in life.

Every weapon that the Bears gave to Justin he maximized. Kmet got his new contract and was the #7 TE in the NFL. Moore had his best season with Fields he went from the 20th to the 6th best WR in the NFL Even the 2022 year Fields and Mooney was solid. It was good enough for Mooney to get a contract this offseason. He definitely has to get better but his RB & WR core was lacking. It’s sad when the QB has more yards than the RBs. Now they got a top RB (they let theirs go to the Lions under Fields). They have two top 20 WR and a top 10 pick WR. He definitely could have played better but they also didn’t help him much either.

Did anybody watch Fields play? When he did get decent protection, he stared down his hot receiver too long nullifying his #2's split second window that he had to get open. After 2 seconds he gets paranoid and drops his eyes and looks for a hole. Fields hardly ever kept his eyes downfield while in the pocket. Good QB's have good peripheral vision and move throughout the pocket while keeping there eyes on a receiver who is dashing across the field to an open spot! Also, watch the All-22 and you'll notice that he gets flustered easily and misses wide open receivers! I don't care if he had 3 of the best receivers; he doesn't throw with good anticipation nor can he process progressions quickly!

Fields took over a playoff team, and won 7 games in 3 seasons. He has over 60 turnovers in 3 seasons. For advanced stats he had 35 score worthy plays, and 87 turnover worthy plays. 87. It took drew brees about 7 years to get that many. Fields sucks, point blank period.

As a Lions fan we feared Justin Fields whenever we played the Bears. What he can do with his legs is insane. Like CJ said, if you had put this team around Fields, maybe you would have seen better results 🤷🏾‍♂️. He rushed for 1000 yards as a QB, he was a difference maker. He will tap into that potential in Pittsburgh 💯
@I.apologist
@I.apologist Ай бұрын
See what GreenBay says about him. Just because he played well against you guys doesn’t mean he was the right QB for the Bears. Hell, every Bears QB does well against Detroit. The fact is, Poles didn’t draft Justin and Justin wasn’t good enough to pass on either of the top 3 Quarterbacks in this year's draft. Remember, Poles passed on CJ last year himself! There was no way Poles could do that again. You also couldn't put much talent long-term around Fields because he was going to have to be paid. Getting a rookie resets the clock to build for the long term. Poles did the right thing.

I mean it’s tough man, it’s tough to always get a great supporting cast around a qb. I’m sure Pace and Nagy were doing everything they could to get him weapons and stability, but they were dug in a hole with high contracts on defense and not a ton of great draft capital. What you really have to ask yourself here is this. Would you rather have had Justin go through what he did the last 3 years and then get Caleb with a better situation, or would you rather have Caleb the last three years and then let Justin walk into this situation. I think I would roll the dice on Caleb. Hindsight is 2020 but Caleb has a much better release throwing the ball.
