Insulin is a hormone made by your pancreas that helps control your blood sugar levels. When your body makes insulin, it also produces C-peptide. Both insulin and C-peptide enter your blood together, but C-peptide stays in your blood longer, making it easier to measure accurately.
This test is important because it helps find out if you have conditions like low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) or diabetes, and it helps manage treatment for these conditions. It can also help track how well treatment is working for pancreatic tumors that affect insulin levels. After the test, the results can show if your body is making too much or too little insulin. Interpreting test results entails consideration of individual factors such as age, health status, medication intake, and concurrent test outcomes. Elevated C-peptide levels typically indicate hyperinsulinemia, linked to conditions like type 2 diabetes, Cushing's syndrome, or pancreatic tumors, among others. C Peptide is not only marker of insulin ..it play important role in the prevention of endothelium injury moreover act as vasodilator, reduce acceration of angiopathies, new studies found that, in Type1 DM angiopathies develop more rapidly despite taking insulin regularly because injectable insulin not contain c Peptide, in future it will be mandatory taking c Peptide injection along with insulin injection in type1 DM
