I am reading "Mere Christianity" right now as part of my journey back to Christ. I must admit it takes some effort to digest....it certainly isnt a "Narnia" story. It is a book you have to take in small sections and think about to truly benefit from, although it is written in an easy going and informal way. Having been a Buddhist for 13 years I was suddenly and unexpectedly struck by the truth contained within the Gospels... "Surprised by Joy" if you like 😊

The bad dream will be over, it will be morning. That is the hope we have in Christ. What people don’t seem to understand is that, unlike a dream, everything matters. Everything you do, everything that’s ever happened to you, all of it matters. And our God is one who understands it all perfectly. He became flesh in Jesus, experienced hunger, pain, physical weakness. All the ugly parts of humanity were on his shoulders, but so were the best parts. Love, family, friendship. God knows it all. Your choice to follow him is significant. It brings Glory to God because you chose him. Out of all the temptations, selfishness, you chose Him, you chose Right. You take what he gives freely, and are rewarded with a new heart, a new life, and someday a new body. I look forward to the day when the scars of my past will be gone, where my pain feels like a bad dream. In Christ we have hope for a better life, the way we are meant to be. Stay strong ❤️

I’m not good enough for Jesus Christ. I am a sinner and have to live according to what’s written. I’ve come to learn people like me aren’t worthy of gods favor or blessings. I have to learn how to be okay with that. I never thought that I’d be living the way I am. Stupefied by things and experiences that have left me rendered a lost soul. Never knew exactly what I was going to do in life and now I see that all my misconstrued ways of thinking and living have only resurfaced in ways that have overwhelmed me and brought me to a place that I have found is a worthless life. I struggle too much with things and due to the stuff I’ve experienced I see that I wasn’t meant to be here. I’ve lost some dear friends and wonder why am I still alive. I’ve tried very hard to figure out what all this means, why and what the occurrences and situations I’ve been through mean. I find myself believing that what’s been done is nothing more than for me to lose all I knew and cared for. I don’t know how much more I can think of or do.I think my time is up.

I have started praying the rosary daily. At the end, you pray to be made worthy of the promises of Christ. I wish I had more to offer, but your post is pretty much the daily experience I am currently facing. I am sometimes able to realize that Satan wouldn't be messing with me this hard if I wasn't close to meaningful growth in Christ. God Bless!

Let me get this straight. As bright & gifted as CS Lewis was but only to learn more about him & his influences, would you still follow and / or listen to his sermons ? THE SINNER'S PRAYER Intro. A. "The Sinner's Prayer" is a common Protestant denominational appeal and plan of salvation. It is often presented at the end of the service when people want to know how to be forgiven of their sins in order to be saved. The words may vary but the elements are usually the same. The assurance is given that if they say these words sincerely, God will save them. B. Where Did It Come From? 1. It is important to establish that the Sinner's Prayer is not from the Scriptures. 2. Nowhere in the New Testament is anyone told to pray to receive salvation and become a Christian. 3. Since the Sinner's Prayer doesn't come from God's Word, it must have originated with men. Billy Sunday . Billy Sunday Popularizes "Crusades" Early 1900s 1. Billy Sunday was a well known baseball player from Iowa. After a conversion experience in a Dwight Moody Chicago mission, Billy left baseball to preach. 2. Billy Sunday was a very popular and entertaining speaker. He preached fire-and-brimstone sermons with a great deal of antics, showmanship and humor. 3. Sunday preached that one could be saved by simply walking down his tent's "sawdust trail" to the front where he was standing. Later people were said to be saved if they publicly shook Sunday's hand and said that they would follow Christ.

@@HonrbleMention Hebrew archeologists went to Egypt to locate evidence for Moses and Exodus and found nothing. Professional archeologists looked for Moses and Exodus and found nothing. Yet one billion people will celebrate the 2000th Easter in 9 years and be completely willing to die for their faith in ancient Hebrew myths with zero credibility. Jerusalem is the location of "The 2000th Easter High Ceremonies," in 2033. It is curiously located on the high ground between the three continents and so the local ancient myths are geopolitically strategic and unimaginably intoxicating.

When we receive the Holy Spirit, good works will naturally flow out of you from a heart of love, compassion, and gratitude, and have nothing to do toward earning one’s salvation, for you salvation was all 100% bought and paid for in Christ’s work on the cross. Thumbs up. I understand your objection about staying the same and changing at the same time. Logically it can't be done. Or so it seems. One problem is our use of language and the limitations of language. Reality is much greater than mere words. Another problem is there are spiritual enemies. And there is pride. I too often fall prey to mere words. It's a struggle to express myself with words only. The imagination and other spiritual faculties need to be exercised and developed. GIVING ALL TO CHRIST IS... 1. Presenting our bodies as a living sacrifice I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:1-2 ESV) 2. Not loving the world. Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world-the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life -is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. (1 John 2:15-17 ESV) 3. Putting to death what is earthly in us. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. (Colossians 3:5-6 ESV)

Just make sure you give as much money as you can to a Church of your choice (but preferably a Christian Church)-remember, all money given to a Church (again, hopefully a Christian Church) is tax-free. Money is so important for the spreading of God's word and for making sure you get to Heaven after you die (where you get to eat really good food and stuff at all-day, every-day free buffets-yes even lots of normally expensive sea food is awaiting you if you give lots of money to the Church today)! So make sure you "Give All To Christ"-and remember, the more money (we love that it's tax-free) you give, the better. Oh yeah, and *-Sky Daddy-* God loves you so very much.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Corinthians 16:22 If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha. Revelation Chapter 22 18For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. Amen to giving all to Jesus Christ the One Who died to set us free.

So it is An O.T. Law huh Ok, it can be said that it is an Old Testament law, one can give you that, but, it is also in the Prophets, and N.T,, so you have an only partial truth. In order to have the total Armour of God, being the helmet, sword and shield, the heart, belt, breastplate, and feet, one must seek to find, for it is all found throughout the Scriptures. A total of eight pieces. It all starts in Deut. 6:8-9 where we are told to wear The Word of God being the Ten Commandments. The Word God spoke, The Word God wrote and The Word make flesh. As well we are told in John that Jesus is The Word. It can be understood why so many, even our scholars missed it all, but maybe it is because our enemy hasn't wanted us to take the O.T. seriously, claiming it was all for Israel or it is Moses' law. Not that we should believe all that we hear, but times are hard just trying to keep our head above water, so finding time to study, or even read the Bible daily is tough. If there ever was a time we should go read and do the Scriptures, it would he now, This world needs the Christian God. But we forget God is The Father, The Son, and the Holy Ghost, the three yet One. In order to serve God one needs to obey them, all of them. No one can keep all the laws of God, not from the O.T. or the New. They were given to a nation, not just an individual. There are armour bearers, preachers, teachers, prophets etc.. There were some given instructions to feed people, others to clothe, and one can go on with chores for us to do. We can no longer sit around and just depend on preachers. It is up to all of us to encourage each other, to tell the truth on any subject you come to know about through work and study. It takes all of us to consist of a well managed nation. So get up, go teach the subject you have grown to know and love, for if done out of love there is no law. Let's learn to love God, to love our neighbour just as The Father and The Son taught us. We are all important in the work of God. And remember, if it is fun or done from the heart then it isn't work.

(1) The bible says *ALL SOULS ARE MINE.* How can we give to God what already belongs to Him ????? (2) Jesus said *YOU HAVE NOT CHOSEN ME. BUT I HAVE CHOSEN YOU.* I believe that applies to chosen ones. How can we who (allegedly) are not chosen and are dead in trespasses and sins . . . how can we choose to give anything to Christ ???? (3) Obviously some Christian logic chooses to emphasize some parts of the bible and to ignore other parts. (4) It's called cherry picking. Or Paul puts it this way. *NOT* rightly dividing the word of truth. I can do that. Anyone who does even a small amount of bible study can spin it up to suit their own personal agendas. Thank you very much. (5) But i just love listening to highly literate speakers of English. Their apparent intelligence tickles me pink.

Anything can be purposefully misinterpreted, especially when translated from translations and these from societies thousands of years ago. The recently passed Dr. Michael Heiser is an exceptionally good scholar for coming to terms with the poetry of the Hebrews. Remember, just like non-scientific cultures still extant today, their use of language was full of references to other sayings and stories and people from other cultures don't catch the references. Add into this that the Bible is also said to describe factual but divine happenings and teasing out the two is nearly impossible from a direct reading of the text. Dr. Heiser made the excellent point that the apocrypha may or may not be divinely inspired but they certainly do give an insight into contemporary language and storytelling of the time and can be used to suss out symbolism from observation.

I agree. It’s an ‘original’ audio but not necessarily of C S Lewis himself. A genuine original BBC recording sounds as if he has a much plummier voice. Also, I’m pretty sure he would have pronounced ‘preparing’ as ‘preh-pair-ing’ not ‘preh-paw-ring’. 🤣 But, so long as these are the original words of CS Lewis, it doesn’t really matter, does it? 😃

One thing Lewis doesn’t seem to grasp is, in become a new self for whatever reason, is in fact an act of Changing One’s self by virtue of one’s Willpower. It doesn’t come from the outside, someone else’s power, or words or even actions. It is an internal movement of the will. And the justification for that will legitimately comes from acknowledging the “real world”, what the real world demands. Fortunately, there is no “good” reason to abandon the real world in maximizing individual existential being. That goal is and can be easily accomplished merely by engaging with other people on a civilized level. Point being, a religious belief is NOT a requirement for being a “good” person. Lewis is considered a good advocate of Christianity but Christianity itself is NOT firmly rooted in the “real”. As a result, it’s a belief that misleads and confines a person to a cage of anachronistic dogma and doctrines.
@msmd3295
@msmd3295 2 ай бұрын
My comment isn’t irrelevant to LIFE. You don’t have to be a Christian and Lewis assumes being a Christian is a “better” human life and it is NOT. In fact, believing in the supernatural like god and god’s son is delusional. Even the “values” in the New Testament existed PRIOR to Jesus’ ministry and existed in other cultures in Africa and the Near East. So the values Jesus taught may have been somewhat “new” for the Jews, but they were not new to other cultures. The ONLY real reason anyone believes in your Bible is what that nonsense promises… paradise, relief from pain and suffering, reunification with dead relatives and friends and famous people, immortality, etc. All things that are lies, delusional, and impossible for “faith” to deliver. Having said THAT … you might want to seek psychiatric treatment because at least a psychiatrist will try to anchor you in the Real world. Have a nice day anyway.

But the "reality" - on which you are so reliant indicates that there is no evidence of humanity being able to engage on a "civilized basis" certainly not in a sustained or transformative way. Which raises the interesting question - what is " civilized "? It takes about 1 hour to read the gospel of Mark. It raises challenges and offers a unique opportunity to those who are prepared to follow the easily seen dotted line. I suggest you might read it. Your input indicates that you haven't.
@msmd3295
@msmd3295 Ай бұрын
@@phillipsugwas 'Civilized' is meant to describe the ability to adapt to a set matrix of Rules such that members of a culture can have certain standards of a social order and expectations, peace, rule of law, cooperation, etc. There is and likely never will be a 'united humanity' because unfortunately human nature will not permit it. We are literally genetically 'determined' by our animalistic past to seek out what sociologists call "In-group & out-group" associations as a matter of survival. And individually we are genetically predisposed toward Self-interest. In fact... the most prominent economic system, which by the way seems to have great support by christianity is Capitalism, in particular the US. Capitalism has its very foundation built upon self-interest. Which by the way.. if christians were truly christian-like they'd largely reject such selfishness. If I'm not mistaken Jesus encouraged his followers to abandon worldly things like wealth and power because christian or not those kinds of pursuits would not get anyone into heaven. There is little to no hope of anyone or anything (even christianity) of uniting al. of human kind. The best homo sapiens could ever even hope for would be Relative peace. But a 'Star Trek' world is an idealistic dream. And christianity won't change that. In fact evidence that supports my contention is the fact that as a belief system holds no one accountable for un-Christ-like behavior. It is instead Secular governance that ultimately holds anti-social and criminal behavior to account. It's fascinating and even disturbing to witness so much criminal behavior and many of those actors are displaying christian crosses. I have yet to witness a news report in which a criminal was prominently displaying a neckless, ring, etc with a big FAT Atheist symbol. And according to the last survey done by the US Bureau of Prisons on religious affiliations of convicts (they no longer collect that data thanks to the 1990s Federal legislation called the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, a conservative Congress didn't want that information collected because prison statistics reflected poorly upon christianity itself. In other words... hide the truth. The truth being that the practices, doctrines, etc of christianity was NOT a very effective means of conditioning 'civilized' behavior.
