@@Gabriel-sl2pq Some time ago I spent hours reading about Transylvania in the 10th century, since the maps from my school always showed Transylvania as Bulgarian in 927. You can look up 927 Simeon map and see. So what I found out is that Bulgaria lost Transylvania and later Vojvodina around 942. The reason Hungarians went into the Carpathian basin in the 10th century was since they had war with Bulgaria and Bulgaria's allies, the Pechenegs, drove the Hungarians away from their homeland and they went into the Carpathian Basin, which was Bulgarian at the time. It doesn't make since for the Magyars to have lost, but somehow gained all of Transylvania. There are no battles showing how they won this territories from Bulgaria. So up until 1000AD the Magyars didn't really have a traditional idea of a state, but more of a stateless confederation with losely defined borders.

Because the Roman Army was devastated completely after 917 battle of Achelous and the Romans lost their experienced soldiers. The next wars with Bulgaria they just conscripted random guys and threw them at Bulgaria. It is after Simeon that they rebuilt their army. Before Simeon the Romans had numerical advantage as well as the strongest navy, so on paper they were stronger.
