C1/107/Aygo 1.0 Petrol full service

In this video, I service my Citroen C1 with the 1.0 petrol engine. Included in the service is the air filter, spark plugs, engine oil and oil filter. It’s a very simple procedure that anyone can do on their driveway with a basic tool kit. I bought the service kit from the City Bug Club store and the engine oil from a local motor factor. The only things id recommend you have on hand is a can of brake cleaner and some blue roll to clean up any spills. Please make sure you dispose of your used oil responsibly.

It might be overkill for some people but if I'm working below anything looking upwards, I always wear eye protection. I know from experience that a flake of rust falling into your eyeball isn't pleasant. Popping on some cheap eye glasses can save you a few days of discomfort.

I have just bought a 2006 Toyota Aygo semi auto. I'm finding it judders for the first few miles when it hasn't been running for a few days.......any thoughts ?

I’d take a look at another of my videos where I sort out a rough running episode in my car. I cleaned out the PCV valve and throttle body. Is worth a try and it’s free.

Nice easy to follow video for beginners. Personally I drop the old oil first, and while it's draining do the sparkplugs. Saves a bit of time not waiting for the oil to drain. I also like to change the sparkplugs each year. When they are only about £7 for 3xKH20tt it's super cheap to do. I'm using Shell HX8 5w40 C3 oil which was about £18 for 5l from CP4L.

Thanks for the feedback, I’m glad you liked it! Normally, I would drop the oil first, but for the purposes of making the video, it was easier to have the car on level ground. I wasn’t in a rush to service this car, so it sat around while the oil fully drained. I usually change spark plugs each year too, but this is my second car and would be lucky if it reaches 2000 miles a year, so I don’t see the point. I normally use Petronas Syntium 5w30 C3 oil in the C1 and A5/B5 in my Volvo. I got a really good deal on the oil I used in this video and as it does very low mileage, it’s fine for its intended use.

The recomended spark plugs are Iridium, they are more expincive but they last for 100.000 miles, oil recomended in the manual is 0W20... TOYOTA

@@domspider1 For newer models this is indeed correct. In fact the newest Aygo comes factory filled with 0W16. The factory fill for the above car was 5w30 and standard sparkplugs. I think the only Toyota to use 0w20 back when this car was made was the Prius. These engines are not picky about oil. The original owners manual even had 15w40 as an option!

I have done 186k miles (300,000km) at last service (oil and filter done twice a year). So I don't think it's time to try out 0w20 to gain 1mpg extra. Have a good evening. 👍

Great video ! But please remind yourself one single drop of oil can make 1000 liter of ground water unusable. Do it somewhere where the floor is either already contaminated or protected.

Would you recommend an engine flush with moly liquid. I've never done it before and don't want to damage the motor. Thanks for the video 👍

There’s two schools of thought with this. I’ve never had a problem with it, so I’m happy to do it, but others claim it dislodges sludge that is sealing leaks and you’d make things worse if you used it. Ultimately it’s your call, but I was happy enough to put an engine flush through this car.

Hi there, very helpful video. I have a 2006 107, can you show me where it specifies 5w30 c3, and do you know if c2 would be acceptable. The original owners manual suggests 5w30 but doesn’t give the acea specification

I’m not sure where it would specify the ACEA rating, I’d only recommend that you refer to the manual.

Please could you tell me, where is the petrol filter? Ebay doesn't list the petrol filter for petrol models and only lists for diesel models instead.

They don’t have one. The only form of fuel filtration on the petrol models is a fine mesh gauze I’ve the pick up pipe on the fuel pump. It’s a non-serviceable item, unless you change the whole pump & sender unit inside the tank.

can you check the coil with the engine started, also have you seen MPG difference before and after changing these, and 3rdly does your aygo also burn engine oil frequantly

You can check the coil with the engine running by removing the coil slightly and seeing what that does to the engine revs. You can also use a mechanic’s stethoscope to listen to the clicks it makes. Changing the coil packs didn’t make any real difference to the MPG figures. My C1 (not an Aygo) doesn’t burn oil luckily, though I’m led to believe that the manufacturer’s acceptable oil burn rate is 1 little per 1000 kilometers.

@@DABDIY did you say 1litre per 1000 km, thats crazy amount of oil surely, i had no idea, well iv done some research and came across possible culprits to be worn parts suck as piston rings and valve seals, would you know how i can confirm this and secondly how do i change these as i cant find any video on doing this. thanks

Yup, 1 litre per 1000 km. They’re cheap engines built on a budget, so don’t expect miracles with them. As for piston rings, that sounds like what is basically an engine rebuild.

As in C3 rated oil? Yes, that’s fine for use in the 1KR engine.

They don’t have one. Their method of filtering fuel is a mesh surrounding the fuel pick up in the tank.

Take a look at one of my previous videos, I cleaned the throttle body, MAF sensor and PCV valve. I found that helped when mine did the same thing.

I´m not a mechanic but I would like to know why Toyota has thousends of engeniers to develop this engine and recomend iridiun spaks and oil 0W20 and a toyota mechanique in a dealershop in some place on heat says 5W30 its ok niquel sparks its ok and every do it. Don't complain that the engine is noisy and that it's not as economical as Toyota says. The 5W30 oil is thicker and makes the movement of the piston more difficult as we are adding resistance to its movement, it also requires the engine to make more effort (therefore it uses more gasoline) for the same job and being in effort makes more noise. Iridium spark plugs produce a more intense spark than Nikel spark plugs, so better explosion and less stress on the coils.

This generation of engine specifies 5w30 C3. Only Toyota specified what you have described.

The engine is the same in all C1 107 and Aygo design by Toyota.

That’s true, but it was only the aygo after 2009 I believe, that specified that grade of oil. The Citroen and Peugeot versions stuck with 5w30 in the manual. For its next oil change, I intend to use a slightly thicker oil still, in order to keep the valves happy. A not insignificant amount of wear takes place over 100,000 miles.

I fully agree with you about the iridium spark plugs though, they’re a great idea. We used them on he Mk2 C1 (1.2 engine) and they’re working an absolute treat.
