I’ve had two of these cars Peogeut 107 and two C1’s. They’re cheap to buy, very cheap to run and service. I drive my 107 to Türkiye and as we got to passed Istanbul we hit a serious snow blizzard and despite having Michelin snow tires we had three skidding events the last one we did 1080deg spin landing on a pile of snow in the central reservation. The police car with snow chains came round and took us to the nearest hotel. The following day we went to pick our little 107 which didn’t have a scratch and started straight away and allowed us to finish our journey to Antalya. The handling is like a go kart on dry roads but be aware in very wet conditions as the back end has a habit of over steering like the old 205 used to - great fun in the dry and damp but in snowy conditions not a the safest car unless you have snow chains - the car never broke down. I used Denso iridium plugs and also cleaned the VVT filter at the back of the block which needs to be kept very clean to avoid variable valve tapping sounds. Best to use original OEM spec Bosch brake pads and discs as well as OEM Purflux oil filters which have better filtration capabilities change 5/30 Synthetic oil every 5000miles and the engine will do over 300k miles no problems.

I bought a Citroen C1 for my daughter and it was a hugely reliable car. She had it 4 years and nothing went wrong. I used to service it every 6 months for about £25 - £30, plus bought an exhaust and 4 tyres during that time. Superb first car :-)

Takes me back to my early motoring days of the 60s / 70s when you either learnt to be a mechanic or walked lol, my favourite was my Triumph herald with the one piece front end that once lifted you could do a full service sat on the front wheel, great tutorial for first time owners who want to do hands on or simply don't have garage rate finances, well done to you sir great vid.

Is there a way to collect the used oil in like an old oil container so easier to take to the dump than just in a tray? Like a funnel that goes to a v big bottle, or a way to stop flow whilst switch over to a diff bottle if get full up? Otherwise, not sure how to get tray of oil to dump without spilling it everywhere, do you use a funnel to pour it out tray into emptied new oil container,please?

A nice full service. I would have done the gear box oil while at it, and maybe changed the water pump as they are known problem on these, if it’s the original. That may be the cause for the noise you mentioned but on mine it was a grinding where the bearing went. Reminds me why Ive got one of three as they are amazing cars and simple to maintain.

I'm guessing the new oil looks slightly dirty because it was overdue an oil change, I do my Aygo every 6,000 miles and the new oil is always crystal clear and quite difficult to see on the dipstick for the first few hundred miles

Very nice job! A few good tips, a few I know for quite some time. You would be surprised how cheap people are! I hear to many scraping brakes when people brake, as the pads are scraping the discs, destroying the lot! Glad servicing is easy. Nice your friend face you new discs, great friend. If this were mine, I would get you to do the work, I'm too lazy and couldn't be bothered! But I do know that if you hear certain noises, you need to replace discs and pads like yesterday!

You say somebody replaced the pads and not the discs but I've had an Aygo for 92,000 miles and replaced the discs twice and always had plenty of pad depth left. I got a better quality set this time (brembo) so not sure if that'll change things but in my limited experience these cars do wear discs faster then the pads. I think the brembo pads may be a softer friction meterial so hopefully they wear instead of the discs

I had to weld my 2005 c1 at the rear, inner sills, both sides. They use thicker steel around the rear axle mounts, but it doesn't extend right out to the sill. Only had to weld narrow, long rectangular patches. I've several coats of wax oyl on it now.

You forgot to wipe down the new discs with brake cleaner to remove the packaging oils. This will contaminate your new pads and could potentially be dangerous as slippery oil and brakes don't mix. You also didn't lubricate the guide pins with silicon grease.
@mec-tec
@mec-tec 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Because these discs have the coating on them, they didnt have any packing oil on them as the coating stops them corroding, i used copper grease on the pins so that should suffice 👍👍👍
@Dark-Lord3386
@Dark-Lord3386 2 жыл бұрын
@@mec-tec I'm not sure that they wouldn't have grease on them anyway and there would certainly be contamination that will still need a quick clean before assembly. Anyway as people are watching this that will likely attempt the job themselves, it might be worth pointing out that they should be cleaned and the reason why you feel you didn't need to as they might not use the same discs as you. Also copper grease will corrode the guide pin rubber. Silicone grease won't. Sorry I'm not being critical but I just feel it's worth pointing out. Great video though. Very informative
