Hi, very informative and useful. But I'm not sure about using a phrasal verb "shed light on" (neutral style) in this type of writing. Is it acceptable or is it better to avoid it and stick to formal style?

It's definitely okay. 'To shed light on something' is quite formal - we wouldn't use it in informal speech.

Nice video! Some questions: How do you know it's C2? Where do you find objective word ranks? English Profile?
@englishlearningexpert3595 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! There’s a descriptor of C2 but in a nutshell it’s basically native level. I was a school teacher for many years so I know all about sentence structure, vocab, subordination etc and can put all that together to write a high level, educated piece. Finally, I passed the C1 exam in Spanish so I have experience of writing at a level below in another language - long answer but that’s how! 😀

Hi! Thank you so much for this video. It is truly precious. I have a question, though: in the hypothetical sentence, why after "were university free..." you use the present simple "it is more probable" and not something like "it would be more probable"? Is it because it is a certain fact?

hello, i hope my comment meets your eyes. I guess I need some pep-talk and help , unfortunately, i have been studying English for a quite long, yet i did not even reach a significant point. looking to the process , i think the main reason of these struggles is not being practical in my studies. i feel down thus keeping forward without contemplate the mistakes that caused to see what you did is impossible to applied. i have issues with every aspect of the language. for those who once said learning English is easy, i will not forgive you.

the problem is that I can't even write that well in my native language
@englishlearningexpert3595 Жыл бұрын
That is so interesting… I was thinking about this the other day - what people in your situation should do. I spoke Spanish for 18 years but didn’t write it, until I decided to sit the C1 exam. However, I’m a very good writer in English so I was able to transfer those skills over to Spanish and I have an excellent online teacher. My recommendation to you: learn to write short essays in your native language. I recommend using the B2 FCE essay questions, as they are only 180 words texts. Then, see if you can find a teacher or someone who is a good writer and go through it with them - this is all in your native language. Once you’ve done that several times, like ten times, you could start trying it in English. You need to be able to write a 5 part essay - introduction, three main paragraphs and a summary. I have some B2 essay videos you could look at. You need to learn to walk before you run (and then fly).
