Got the underside bedlined, the bed assembled (temporarily), and primer on one side. Had to do a small patch panel and weld up a couple small holes but overall it's in great shape. #c10, #restoration, #stoutcustom

Can't speak for anyone else but I would spray some internal coating on the welded pockets on the backside. Maybe I am just thinking too loud. But super job on work shown in the video! In the country it was rocks and road gravel both ways to leave home.

@@StoutCustom I knew you probably would. I got a two part sprayable epoxy go go inside the side bed pockets and even though I have a long wing span, I felt I might try a "Flex-Stone" hone to sand off crispy critters, wax & grease, epoxy then during the open window, spray some 2 part bed liner on top of it. Seals but not seen. Very, very nice Jim. This one is for you? Cause it's a keeper.

Recently sanded my entire K5 Blazer down to bare metal with your long throw polisher method. It was a breeze with 80 grit and the frequent changing of discs. I then went through several more going back over it to make sure everything was roughed instead of polished like you mentioned. It’s now in epoxy. Can’t wait to finally get this thing done, but my work schedule (5-6 rotating 12-16 hour shifts) and family priorities leave only a few hours a week usually to work on it.

I guess i am to regular for changing hours like that. Hope it pays well as I have done a stupid thing on a Monday once. Drove to work early, parked and no one's there. It was a 3 day weekend for New Years. So, after 20 minutes, drove home. Did have cell phone then but learned to ask & look at the calendar from time to time.

I am working on a 67 C10 full project like yours and really enjoy and get so much from your videos so thank you for sharing your knowledge.. I’ve been doing some floor pan and rocker replacement and am almost ready for paint.. I am sanding to bare metal and planning for epoxy first.. should I do anything to the surface rust areas before priming other than sanding and wire brushing everything? Don’t want any problems in the future.. thanks again for the advice..
@StoutCustom
@StoutCustom Жыл бұрын
You need good clean metal before epoxy. If sanding doesn’t take it off you may be able to grind it a little or blast it to get it clean. You have to be careful blasting because it will warp sheet metal fairly easily.(and makes a heck of a mess). There are some rust treatments out there, ie., Rust Mort, Ospho, POR15, etc. I’ve only used those in hidden areas I couldn’t get to to blast or areas that didn’t visually matter. So if you take the outter rocker panel off and there is surface rust on the panel behind it, you could treat it with POR-15 and it would hold up well. If you use any of the treatments be sure to follow their procedures. Hope this helps, thanks for watching, and good luck with your project!

When working panels down to bare metal like this, do you typically try to prep them for epoxy the same day to prevent surface rust from occurring? I'm wondering if you ever use other rust preventative products or rattle can sprays for convenience instead of breaking out the spray gun with epoxy primer.
@StoutCustom
@StoutCustom 6 ай бұрын
I try to get them in epoxy the same day if possible. If I am trying to get more parts ready than I can complete in a day, I will get them all stripped down close to bare metal but just short of a final sanding. Then once they are all in that close to final sanding state, it doesn’t take long to sand all the pieces again to final bare metal and epoxy the same day. I very rarely put on a temporary product.

Appreciate your video's and have learned some tricks from you. I building a 72 C10 from the frame up and finishing up the bodywork. I have a question about putting the bed back together. After you get all the panels/bolts loosely put together where do you start tightening first and then continue to ? Any tips you could share would be GREATY appreciate. Thanks....
@StoutCustom
@StoutCustom Жыл бұрын
Hey Aj. Once I got all the bolts in I simply stared in the middle and worked my way out each way. Bolted up pretty easy with no real problems. There are lots of bolts so there wasn’t much play to deal with. Thanks for watching and good luck on your truck!

Great video looking great . One question why 3 coats is that to get more build?
@StoutCustom
@StoutCustom Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes. So this primer is a high build direct to metal epoxy based product that gives you a good amount of build and can be blocked. Three coats gives me enough build to block out minor imperfections without sanding it all off. In contrast regular epoxy is really for adhesion and corrosion protection , doesn’t build much, and doesn’t block well so an additional blockable product needs to go over the epoxy. Therefore one or two coats is all that is needed of regular epoxy. Hope this answers your question. As always thanks for watching!

Does 96 truck beds come apart the same way or are they spot welded.

@@SealofPerfection I’ve heard of people doing that with POR-15 as well since it will stick to rust if it’s there. Anything should be better than nothing at all.

@@StoutCustom I put POR on the bottom of the bed floor. It's a drag truck so it's not like it's ever really going to go down the road or anything. I suppose I could use that to run down in the sides as well. I know some restoration shops don't like that stuff, but I have had good luck with it in my limited usage of it. It is very tough
