I am torn with using a seam sealer for my wheel tubes to bed sides. Even though I run a tap thru the holes, the mechanic in me puts anti-seize on each bolt. I don not intend on it to squirt out or apply after assembly, but the lower area just below the generous flange below the bolt line. I used a 3M window glazing on the fronts wheel house that seals rubbers on windshields but put it low. I only had a little to wipe off at the bottom side. It doesn’t harden but keeps water out of this joint, wether it rains while driving or during clean up. Most would use none. The epoxy, 2K primer, paint w/clear should keep it sealed. Since this is mine, I like the “Belt and Suspenders” approach. But I am spraying the waxy rust proofing inside the bedsides as well. More than most, yes. But I sleep better knowing 30 yrs someone will benefit from my efforts today. My guess on this show truck, no!

This truck will get cavity wax as each part is assembled.

glad you're feeling better and the videos are back. that slow mo was legit. I'm not an auto painter but I remember when I first started air brushing model cars many many years ago you start spraying paint before you get to the material and don't stop until you passed the material. makes it "seamless"

Thanks TC. Yeah I get in a hurry sometimes and stop too soon but I’ve done it so long now that it’s second nature I guess.

It worked really well. Clean jobs when it was new but it’s about time to replace it I think. Back to the standard nibs here n there of trash. If you can find it on sale I think it pays for itself in labor and buffing materials.

I just painted my 77 Chevy short bed in pieces. Took about 40 hours of booth time to do inside and out of all the panels. 3 coats of 2021 PPG clear. Is that enough clear to do a hard sanding to get it completely flat before polishing? Or do you recommend to sand and re clear with a couple more coats, then sand and polish? If so, what grit do you sand the clear with before the re clear? And what grit do you start with sanding the clear for polish? Your work is outstanding! I really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks for all the videos.
@StoutCustom
@StoutCustom 2 жыл бұрын
It should be plenty as long as it came out fairly flat with some minor pieces of trash to sand out. If it’s heavily orange peeled or full of imperfections a sand and reclear may be easier. I’d say sand and polish a piece and see how it goes.
@loriethornton12
@loriethornton12 2 жыл бұрын
@@StoutCustom I’m going to do the reclear. I want to go the extra mile on it. Should I go with three more coats knowing I’m taking off a couple by sanding flat. Because I plan to do a sand a polish on the reclear which will take off at least a coat?
@StoutCustom
@StoutCustom 2 жыл бұрын
@@loriethornton12 i would aim for two and be prepared to do three. It should be nice and flat after sanding and prepping for reclear. Two more should be plenty as long as you aren’t too aggressive when sanding to polish. If you can get it slick enough and clean enough in two, you can stop there. If it’s rough or full of trash and you think a third coat will help, go ahead and put it on.
