Thanks for sharing how you did the masking. I’ve been struggling with how to go about doing this with my truck. It explained it a lot better than most the over videos I’ve seen with before and after. Having a small garage and trying to paint I plan on doing the jams and stuff then masking and putting doors and fenders on to paint completely. Thanks again 🙏🏼

Jose Rivera Hey! Thanks for watching. I used Delfleet Essentials single stage black on the jambs. Code was PPG 9700. It’s a great, durable product with a really good gloss level. It’s very affordable too. On the outside I prefer a base coat/clear coat finish, but single stage is the way to go on jambs.

What's the process there? Did you epoxy primer sealer and then paint directly on top? And where do I get one of those tape machines? That's phenomenal!!!! Thanks 😊
@StoutCustom Жыл бұрын
Yes. Epoxy as a sealer then single stage right on top. Quick and easy with little chance of the old lacquer paint lifting and causing problems. You can find the EZ Edger on Amazon. I added a link in the description below the video if you want to go that route. Thanks for watching!

So much easier to jamb or shoot insides of panels with single stage! Looking good. What size are those Iroc wheels? They are gonna compliment that truck real nice👌

I agree. The wheels are 22’s. Thanks!

If you wanted to media blast the truck, would you have to stop and address all welding or uneven metal surfaces or just filler over those spots? How much time do you have between blasting and having to lay epoxy?
@StoutCustom6 ай бұрын
Steel parts should be epoxied immediately after blasting unless a corrosion inhibitor was used which is usually the case when something has been blasted using the “dustless blasting” technique. I’m not exactly sure how long the rust inhibitor extends the window for applying epoxy though. So it’s best to get epoxy on bare steel as soon as possible. I try to do as much dent pulling and sheet metal replacement as I can before blasting. If I know it needs rockers, floor pans, patch panels, etc.. I try to do that before blasting. That way blasting cleans up the welds and leaves the metal ready to accept epoxy. There are usually things you find when blasting so you just deal with them after epoxy. So it’s….repair all you can, blast, epoxy, repair what you find, epoxy areas that need it, then start filler work. Good luck with your project!

Do you have to sand that door jamb edge at all for paint adhesion when you do the exterior base/clear? There would be a week or two between the jambs being painted and the exterior.
@StoutCustom3 жыл бұрын
Yes but just barely over the edge. Watch the C10 repaint: Painting the Cab video. I think I show it a little. Once the jamb is painted, I use an ez edger to slightly fold the tape over itself. With that edge of the tape running along the inside edge of the jamb, it exposes maybe a 1/16” edge on the inside of the jamb. When the outside is sanded for paint, with the door closed, a scotchbrite pad is used to sand the edge into the jamb just past the rounded edge. Man I hope that makes sense. Kinda hard to explain but between that and the video maybe it will help. Thanks for watching!
@joshuakeith87103 жыл бұрын
@@StoutCustom That makes perfect sense. Thank you!

Do you scuff the epoxy primer before spraying the single stage?
@StoutCustom2 жыл бұрын
No, the epoxy has to flash off for 30 minutes then the single stage is applied without sanding.
@NDB390 Жыл бұрын
Was the interior still factory enamel? And if so is that why you put a urethane single stage over it vs base clear?
@StoutCustom Жыл бұрын
I believe it’s lacquer but yes. I typically like to use single stage in the jambs on any solid color. Looks better by hiding more imperfections. If I were going with a metallic base clear the epoxy sealer should help isolate the old paint from the basecoat and prevent lifting but it’s still higher risk than single stage. Stripping off all the old paint would be best but difficult of course under a hood. Thanks for watching!
