@@StoutCustom excellent video. What are your thoughts and preferences on painting the underside of the cab with paint versus some sort of undercoating?
@StoutCustom3 жыл бұрын
@@jordangraham2942 it’s really personal preference. Paint looks so clean when it’s done and as you assemble the vehicle but a few trips down the road and that’s over. Hard to ever get it that clean again. Undercoating, bedliner, gravel guard can look good too but the same hold true for them as well. The Nader costs can help with road noise too. It’s also easier to spray bomb under coats back to “clean” if you want to.

great videos; Usually you fast forward through spraying can you possibly do a little slow motion. I think I am seeing a little flip of the spray gun to the out side when spraying a panel and you pick up that edge when you move down that way. Am I seeing things?

I used SEM 39347 flexible foam. Gives it some support without being too rigid. It will expand out past the supports and you have to trim it back. Good luck on your project!

Another great video. Is there a reason you prefer the mixing seam sealer vs a single tube? Pros/Cons
@StoutCustom4 жыл бұрын
I use the single tube caulking gun style seam sealer in some places. Usually on the underside of a vehicle where its not seen or where it duplicates the “factory look” I’m after. Its often brushed into the seam to make a brushed factory look. They are usually slow to cure sometimes taking overnight to dry. The two part seam sealers give you more options. The textures/profiles have a greater range from thick and not moving much after you apply it to flowing out almost completely flat. The one part types cure over time relative to the environment they are in. The two part is a chemical reaction that is very predictable with a specific cure time designed into the product. Some as quick as 15 minutes. A one component has more potential over time to shrink or crack where the two part doesn’t. Either one can give you great results but you may have to work the single component more to get there and wait longer for it to dry.

Did you seem seal around the rocker edges? I didn't see it.

I sealed all the accessible joints. There are a couple areas like the upper seam and inside the rockers that will be treated with cavity wax.

@StoutCustom3 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of places online that sell them. Eastwood’s, harbor freight, I even saw Lowe’s offers one. They are pretty basic and simarly priced so I’d read the reviews and decide which one you like. Some have up charges for wheels, hydraulic rams, etc.. depending on what you want.

@StoutCustom4 жыл бұрын
On these older vehicles yes. You never know whats underneath and most were painted with lacquer which doesn’t play well with a lot of todays products. If you start at bare steel and use the right products, there should be no surprises that bite you in the rear. Thanks for watching!

@StoutCustom4 жыл бұрын
@@seanobrien6254 its more complex than this but here goes: Strip to bare metal, epoxy, replace bad sheetmetal, re epoxy any bare metal, work filler, high build primer, block and add filler where necessary, reprime with high build primer, block, final prime with high build before prepping to paint.

How to you keep the self leveling sealer from running on the verticals? Are you rotating the rotisserie as you go off camera? Watching every morning at 4am before work, addicted!!! Awesome awesome awesome job!!!
@StoutCustom3 жыл бұрын
I try to apply it thinner on the vertices because it does run. Once it dries it can be sanded and another thin layer applied to get the finish your after. It was cooler back when I did this and the ambient air temp has everything to do with how much it flows. It was a bit more controllable then. I used a little recently in this heat and it was almost uncontrollable. I’m sure if I could do it in sections using the rotisserie I would have. Thanks for watching!

Hi, did you use VP2050 over the bare metal?
@StoutCustom2 жыл бұрын
The truck was blasted and epoxied before I got it. So I started by sanding and applying filler over the epoxy. Working the filler created some bare metal spots, filler areas, and sanded epoxy. I put the VP 2050 on top of all that.

I would use the whole thing if i had a long enough and flat enough panel. Most of the time about 17” though. Thats about the length file paper comes precut for an airfile which i guess im just used to. Thanks and thanks for watching!

Hello, Great job!! Was the primer you used while on the rotisserie urethane, I noted you did epoxy then urethane in another of your videos. I am amazed by your work. Thank you
@StoutCustom3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I think this primer was the Vibrance VP2050 High Build DTM primer. It’s an epoxy based high build. After I block it down and I’m satisfied, I do a final prime of urethane primer. Then it’s ready to prep for paint. Thanks for watching!
