Was a sheet metal mechanic on hercs @Rhein Main from 74-76 replaced lots of camlocs on those birds. Great aircraft. Will be flying when everything else is grounded.

In 1972, I was a jumpmaster on a C-130 leaving Green Ramp at Pope Air Force Base. It was a scheduled jump for my unit, 4/68th Armor Battalion, 82d Airborne Division, we were enroute to Sicily North dropzone on Fort Bragg. After we took off and began to clime we had an inflight emergency as 2 engines cut out. The pilots decided for a go around and land back at Pope. As we came around and lined up on the runway, engine number 3 started to sputter. As we descended, the runway was being foamed. As we touched down, number 3 engine quit. We used all the runway and the smell of brakes was strong in the aircraft. The pilots were fantastic and came back and told us that they basically completed the emergency on one engine! I have 60 military parachute jumps, most of them from the C-130. I love that aircraft.

I have been lucky enough to have a 1 hour ride in a herc hhen I was 16 and me and another person were standing in the cockpit on takeoff, they had the doors open and did touch and goes it was awesome

@@coningsbylive i was an air cadet for 7.5 yrs from 13 and tons of different stuff, ive been winch launch gliding was the first time ever i ever flew, ive been in various powered stuff different helicopters, the first helicopter i went in sea king had a leak and we had to hard turn back and get back asap, we had all the fire engines chasing us down runway with sirens blaring, i went on camps every yr and my final overseas at akrotiri in cypress, i did this herc at lyneham 47 sqd the aeroplane we flew in is xv306 looking at my book.

​@@coningsbylive there are sections of book that ran out of space because I was doing so much but you have to keep doing all the not so good stuff to get the good stuff. The first time I went shooting 3 days before my 14th I got the basic shooting marksmen this was only with a .22 but you cant do any other shooting without this, so the atc marksman @ 25 yrds you have to get your five shots only within a 2p piece after this you can do other weapons, my 16th birthday was my best because I got my first promotion (through my whole time I to the top rank) i did the raf marksman which took 3 yrs to get because its a lot harder and when your young its harder (also the raf marksman i seem to rem you had to get 10 shots in the next 2 sections) ((l98 a1 this was with its similar to the sa80 army and raf and all the others but you have to pull the reload so it moves around a bit more) you still have to start with the 5 in a 2p but it gets a lot harder because the targets move away and you have a random time before they come back and you have to get to shots off in 2 seconds before they move away again and then it changes again , I was also able to the atc marksman with this weapon and lots more with the 22 this was another place where i was running out of space, i also 16 and a few months went on a weeks gliding course at raf west malling (where gibson who was lead of the dam busters was based here and there is roads and other stuff when you come in and other buildings to commemorate him) I was lucky enough to go solo (not everyone went solo but most did) in ze600 this is the number its a viking this took me 31 launches over 3.28 hours, i also have been in the red arrows helicopter or it was the one they used to use to come to their air shows but I am not sure if they do that now, also when i was in cypress on my over seas camp in apr the reds where still doing their spring hawk practise for the coming season they had a little comp for the best cdt in each flight gets their name in a hat and the winner gets a ride in the back i was able to get my in the hat but annoyingly it was not picked, i have also had a 20 min lesson in a helicopter because i have done lots of normal flying and even went solo i was interested in the differences so i was given this as a birthday present i did this in a robinson r22, this was g-deer

A lot of drama for nothing.... With four 3,750-hp engines , now uprated to 4,050 apiece-the C-130 is one of the most overpowered aircraft in the military inventory. It could literally fly on one engine.

Had a turbine let go on an E model at Pope right as we lifted off on a hot day. Quite sporting! Landed and got another airplane. Would've been early '80's.

Good video, but reading a couple of comments regarding shutting engines down to save fuel, i would imagine there`s a big difference between making a calculated decision to shut x amount of engines for economy reasons, and having an engine make its OWN decision to shut down,seeing that you ( as the pilot ),have the whole crews lives in your hand, ......can you afford to trust that none of the remaining engines wont decide pack up ?. its a safer option to just return to base, your crew and their families may have cause to be eternally grateful for your decision.

It was enough for him to abort his transit and return to base. He didn't want the fire engine but guess that's the base requirement. But he did declare a emergency and return

Had that happen to me in about '83 at Warner-Robbins AFB. After takeoff I looked out the port troop door and #2 was gushing oil like an oil well. I told the pilot to shut down #2. The FE came back to have a look, (like a Loadmaster can't tell when there's a stream of oil coming out) concurred with my findings and shut the engine down, turned around and went back to WR for a new engine. Had a pretty fun RON that night. I think that is the only engine failure I had in 1300 or so hours in the H model. No big deal. The Herc can fly on one if need be. I don't want to be on it but it can, so they say.

It was caused by a fuel pipe blocking all remaining engines was checked and it was decided to replace the said bit of pipe on all the engines as it could happen again due to build up of bits left in bottom of tanks like if we run our cars low it will suck up particles that build up over time

Made a mass tactical jump into RAF Skulthorpe leaving from RAF Lakenheath on a C-130 in the spring of 1979. When we left it was 70 degrees and sunny, 20 minutes later we jumped from 1250 agl into a snowsquall where you could not see the next jumper but by the time we all gathered our chutes and loaded them on the truck the sun was out again and the snow was almost all melted. The Hercules hardly used any runway to take off with no real load and climbed like a fighter jet. A super aircraft.
