This video went so quickly...I think it was because it was so intense. I really like to see the inside of someone else's engine. As for the motorhome, how in the world could an air line get so twisted. We often install a specific air valve to activate a towed car's brakes from the air brakes on the motorhome, and what we usually find are leaking air bags...sometimes so bad that the bag has difficulty fully supporting the chassis. I can't leave without commenting on your expressions...funny how we do that...I do it too.
@AdeptApe3 жыл бұрын
Hey Larry. I suspect the air line was twisted by someone installing the hot hose line onto the air drier during an air drier service, but the spinning part of the JIC fitting was rusted, so they just tightened it anyway. Just a theory.

Got a gold kit for a C15 once. The front cam bearing in the reman head was not clocked right. The kid doing the overhaul didn't notice and fried the cam at start up. I believe it was one of the good BXS engines. The Cat dealer made good on a new bearing and reman cam. Doing it in chassis was a PIA for sure. You can't use the guide all the way through.

Hey man I love your channel. It’s been very helpful. I just want to say that I worked at a CAT dealer for a long time and then went to a private contractor for much more money. Just want to let people know that I’ve used all the specialty tools and they’re great. But when you don’t have them, because private contractors don’t buy every tool for every job, you can find a way. Fabricate something or figure a way. I’ve been on both sides. The tools are ideal but most people don’t have them and you can usually figure it out.

Very informative video Josh. The in-shop videos like this are great. I'm fixing to buy a brand new T680 with a 565 HP X15 in it, gotta retire my Cat due to terrible fuel economy. Do you know anything about the X15s? I've heard they're doing ok, but I'm leary of the aftertreatment engines altogether
@AdeptApe3 жыл бұрын
From what I understand on them they are the ISX Cummins and they should do a little better on fuel economy than a Cat would. The Jake brakes are supposed to be way better than the Cat ones I've heard. The emissions stuff can really get you though, once it starts getting a few years old and the DEF, SCR and DPF start having problems you can be looking at thousands of dollars in repairs for that stuff. The DEF system really adds a lot of expense and complexity to the system.
@electric74873 жыл бұрын
@@AdeptApe How well or not do you think today's new industrial C15's (off-highway, not the on-highway C15's) would perform with respect to fuel economy compared to a new X15 if you were to swap one into a truck?
@AdeptApe3 жыл бұрын
They would probably get comparable mileage to the older C15 Engines, they use the same fuel system and valvetrain design. They do use the twin solenoid injector design, but other than that they are pretty much the same.
@rodneyward83573 жыл бұрын
It is very easy to get decent mileage out of a cat. I pull 5.9 6 pulling heavy and running 70 with 4:30s cats hate idling, always shift around 1500 which with most trans will drop it to around 1200 which is peak torque. Unless you need it drive as if there is an egg under the throttle. Most drivers I know with an x15 can barely pull 5. My jakes are very strong. MXS C15 550 IVA's deleted
