I can't believe there has been 6 dislikes in just 6hrs. on this video. It was a great video I think it's cool how you share all the ups and downs that go along with repairs and modifications. probably the six guys I had to ban, I can take criticism but when they threaten me and my family, well bye bye, had a little colored fella threaten to butt rape the wife till she bleeds then threatened to kill me and some more white people so I sent his comments to youtube and his channel disappeared I think it's the anonymity that gives people the courage to be mean and say things they would never say while standing in line for a beer

Central Iowa here... I thought you called Blaylock and asked if that turbo would work. Of course he probably didn't know about the outlet size difference, but the compressor difference he didn't say anything about? Anyway, couple more days to wait to hear her fire up isn't bad. Good chance to make sure everything is all buttoned up and ready to go. Thanks for the video!

Greetings, Jeff. I suggest you should check the bearings at both ends of the air compressor. Failure of either bearing will allow the compressor shaft to wobble enough to destroy the drive gears. Best of luck with your C15 project. And all the best for 2018 and beyond.

Oops! Well. You'll have that from time to time with these big operations.... sometimes. I forget were I heard that. I'm sorry to hear about the mistake regarding the turbo but I'm also a little surprised that the manufacturer didn't pick up that it was for your particular engine because I would have thought that you would have discussed in quite some detail prior to ordering it exactly what engine it was to be used on. Sir, Just watch some more of your video's and subscribed. Cool stuff. You remind me of my dad who was a lifetime mechanic. No nonsense kinda guy. When I was a small child and walked to school in the first grade I would sit on the curb and watch a guy load a small Cat onto a Diamond T tandem with a beaver tail bed. My goal in life was to be a "Cat Skinner". Well, that did not work out. I did ride on an AC TS200 scraper my uncle use to run, not a real smart idea back then. I love watching your repair work and dirt moving. I still stop and watch dozers and scrapers moving the earth. I am from Olathe, Ks. Suburb of Kansas City. Take care. Gene. Hi Jeff, I hope Klaus did not suffer with the car encounter. I have three German Shepards and they are all like family. I have had that breed of dog since I was 16 yrs. old, and I am 67 yrs. old now. I enjoy watching your videos. In my younger years I operated heavy equipment, broke in on CAT DW 20 scraper. I have owned several trucks in the past also. The last one I owned I ordered from Kenworth. I specs the whole truck the way I wanted it. The engine was CAT 3406 E, I think but I am not sure it was the first year for that engine, 1995. It was a 475 hp. high torque. The early 3406 E model engines had bad cam shafts and mine failed at a little over 100,000 miles but CAT did an inframe rebuild under warranty. I also owned trucks with 1693 engines. Have also rebuilt a few of the 1693's always at approximately 500,000 miles because of the piston, I have never seen any piston from a1693 that was not cracked at the steel plug where the fuel sprayed from the nozzle. My info on that was two different metals, aluminum piston, steel plug, expand and contract at different at rates. The other thing that I have concern is the dual Pyrometer. I have seen the stingers or probes fail on the ones with them positioned in the manifold and then destroy the turbocharger when it went through it. I am guessing that metallurgy now is better than it was 30yrs. ago. But one thing is still the same in that to much heat always causes some sort of failure. I guess that is my two cents worth. Once again love the videos. Mike P.S if you haven't noticed , I am not a tech savvy person. .

Well, not sure what made you finally notice all the boo-boos now, but better now than later. Your Tip about learning from reading the old books and manuals. Works on other things, too! - It's the same way I taught myself a lot of the I.T. and tech stuff and why I enjoyed computers which lead to other things. I'm a mechanical engineer so it fit naturally with my curiosity and desire to know how things work, especially the Cats. Speaking of cats, I guess it is fitting you were riding on the Arctic version.

JPaydirt, great channel! I'm near Thorsby, Alberta, just outside Edmonton. I'm a gray hair guy too, and I do all my own wrenching. I have a couple medium trucks and several of old farm tractors these days. I had a Komatsu D21P for a few years, for clearing snow. When I was about 18 I worked road construction for a while and operated a really crusty old push CAT, maybe a D9E, as well as a D500 Hough push tractor. There was time for coffee while the D9 spun over on the pony. You'd watch for the exhaust to turn from white to light gray and you'd know it was time to put the stopper back in your thermos because the Cat was about to change to dark gray smoke and start up. These machines were both a blast to run. If you're not familiar with the relatively rare D500 Hough, google it, it's a brute. Are you following Squatch253's Cat 10 overhaul? If not, check it out.

I liked the comment by Scott Lundy. I'll email you a pic of my '75 Pete and video after I replaced the turbo. Any suggestions about it getting hot too quick and leaking head gasket. I didn't get any history of the motor when I found it and put it in. Greg
@Jpaydirt7 жыл бұрын
coolant leaking? is it pressurizing the radiator? if it's leaking antifreeze and pressurizing the radiator I'd guess it's a counter bore (a liner has dropped down and the head gasket is trying to seal the combustion, but not for long)
@Jpaydirt7 жыл бұрын
Ok after I saw what it's in I said "to small of radiator" cabovers were not 1693 friendly the leaking antifreeze is probably coming from underneath the spacer plate shim, the water directors are probably corroded , some kind of leak stopper is the only thing you can do, just not to much as it will also plug up everything else

Sucks about the turbo but I would imagine the air needs of the C15 and the D9 are a bit different what with the c15 being almost twice the hp and all. Good time to drill that other boss in the manifold for a drive pressure gauge with the turbo off anyway. :-)

I swaped out my cat turbo and there is a world of difference without the waste gate, plus the Borg Warner is a little different design. Boost is in the 50 psi + range using a pittsburg powerbox. This combination with the aftermarket manifold also greatly reduces egt. Not recommended for the undisciplined driver.
