I have answers for your questions on the Short concerning the tach drive gear, but I don't know how to post them on a Short.

@@budehrmann5902 You can post them here, but I have it mostly figured out. Thank you!

@@thedrivewayC3 You want to make sure there is a hardened setscrew in the cast iron housing for the driven gear to bear against. The housing is too soft and the gear will wear into it and eventually strip the teeth off the mainshaft of the distributor.

@@budehrmann5902 Are you referring to the Tach drive gear or the teeth on the Distributor shaft? I replaced the gear that goes into the Distributor and drives the Tach.

@@thedrivewayC3 The tach drive gear is pushed into the distributor housing and wears a divot in the housing. When it wears deep enough, the teeth on the tach drive gear disengage from the teeth on the distributor shaft and shear them off. I had that happen on my 69 back in the early 80s and GM still provided new shafts. I drilled and tapped the housing and installed a setscrew and locked it in place with a nut and locktite. I am the original owner of the car and it now has 142000 miles on it. I learned about this problem in an article in Corvette News, a GM publication that was discontinued in the late 70s.

@@budehrmann5902 Thanks for the info. I know what you’re talking about. The original had a small brass button in there, but it would wear out as you mentioned. I replaced everything in my tach and it should be good for a while. Not going to drive the car many miles, as it’s a fun project for the weekends. No road trips!
