That tow truck man as helpful he was trying to be , probably blew your circuit as well. This is a common problem with mercs, the ignition switch can mal function not allowing the circuit to close, normally when you put the key in , there will be zipp kinda noise. If that noise is not there you know its the ignition switch. What did it set you back. Can be done here in the uk for around $300.

Hooking up outside power with key in ignition will fry the key. That's another big bill from the dealer.

Your electronic steering lock (esl) has likely failed. There's a little motor in there that unlocks the steering and will eventually seize up. Sometimes banging the steering column will free it up. Otherwise, it's a $1500 ish repair plus tow to the dealer. They will replace that and usually replace your electronic ignition switch (eis), even though it's usually still good. How many miles did you have at the time? I'm actually looking to get a W204 Merc.

Absolutely correct or possibility fried the computer Never let a tow truck driver do that With a high end car like Mercedes Benz, or BMW

What I did to get it fixed, but I took it to my personal Mechanic and I had an order a new key as well as a new ignition system

Steering wheel locked it happened to me the same thing they had to replace the steering wheel lock 2000 dollars
