My father whom just passed away bought a 95 ZR1 brand new. It was the car I learned to drive manual in. Unfortunately it was destroyed along with everything else when our home was leveled by an EF4 tornado. I’m thinking of selling my Callaway to buy a C4 Zr1. We live not very far from Hennesey Performance and my father always wanted to twin turbo it. So I’m thinking of picking up where he left off. Or possibly creating a 415 stroker out of the lt5. It’s just an insane amount of money. Almost double what I gave for my 427dart ls next2 long block.

One of the fondest memories I have with my father is our weekly trip up to 180mph. We have almost endless roads that are almost perfect for top end runs. I still have his old ZR1 registry sticker. Life begins at 180

First time I've ever heard a C4 ZR-1 engine wide open, all the way to top speed. Beautiful noise. The car was very stable, too. I read the C4 was actually developed to be aero-stable up to 200 mph. Maybe I need lesson
@GLF4263 жыл бұрын
@@glencollins4962 I know that's sarcasm but I'll play along as I'm just sitting here riding to work.. for those that don't know... you Rev match when you down shift for two reasons. One so that you don't shock the rear tires. And two so that you don't shock the power train. Rev matching when downshifting is simply matching the rpm of the engine to the wheel speed. Simply, if you're running 60 mph in 5th gear and you want todown shift to 4th, you want to blip the throttle to match the rpm you would be at if you were running 60 in 4th. Quite simple. Better for clutch. Eliminates accidental lock up. Less stress on powertrain and drivetrain. Now, I wasn't berating the guy. I actually was complimenting him for being brave enough to make the run under those circumstances. But as far as down shifting, revving the engine, letting the rpms fall back down, then dumping the clutch and having the rpms shoot back up..... well that ain't the way its done. You do it right, you only hear one Rev. This concludes today's lesson

I love a good stock engine. When it comes to muscle cars and Japanese tuners, everyone wants to give everything engine swaps, 1000 horsepower, massive turbos and superchargers, etc. But nothing to me beats the sound of a nice bone-stock engine, of any type, really. I wish more people appreciated that. Even with a minor exhaust change.

This was my "If I win the lotto" car when in production. Of course I never actually played. lol. Regardless, you are driving my lotto car! Nicely! Congrats. My current lotto dream is sadly not a NEW car at all. As great as they are, something is missing. I would build my own. It would look like an early C3 but totally re-engineered.

That's movin! I had a opportunity to run my 04 Z06 and was able to go 148. Had I known the course or had a 2nd chance I'd have gone 160+. My C5 was rock steady and I'll never forget it.

Hi I did 6 runs on this occasion every run faster and further though about a C5 Z06 didn't feel like my ZR-1 at all you need to find an event and have another go at taping your Z06 out

Yeah I think GM definitely knew what they were doing with the body shape and the aerodynamics. I think it's still interesting that it is the only double overhead cam engine put in a Corvette. Figures GM didn't make it either, they had Lotus design it and Mercury Marine I believe make it.

I totaled a 90 ZR-1 in 1993 doing something like this. My best friends car that he received as a graduation present from college from his parents. We were over 165 going around a long curve and he kept telling me to slow down and then he grabbed my leg to try to lift my foot. I dropped the front right tire off on a soft shoulder and we twisted around and then flew off a 20 foot high embankment and landed on the top. This was out in the country in the middle of the night. Neither of us were wearing seatbelts. The back glass popped off and we went out the back as the car was sliding on the roof through the grass. I was in shock the next day and went to the hospital - my buddy did as well - but neither of us got hurt other than being incredibly sore. The last thing I saw on the speedometer was 156 when we were twisting around. Fortunately my buddy forgave me and he's still my best friend. I felt a lot of shame and still feel bad about it to this day.
