Bolt's chances of retaining his title melts away as he is disqualified in the final. However, his training partner Yohan Blake of Jamaica capitalises by becoming the youngest man to ever take this title in 9.92.

Must have been a wierd experience of mixed emotions for the Jamaican fans, their star man gets dq'd, so they're understandably down, but then Yohan Blake wins and they're up again. But that's sport for you, and why people love it.

I think this was realistically the best chance Bolt had to break his 9.58 mark. He was at his absolute fastest in terms of physiology (~24yo), had over 3 years of dedicated 100m training under his belt by then and was nailing his starts with basically perfect drive phases in the heats and semi. He was beating the best starters out of the blocks and well clear and gone by 40m. In the semi he shut down at 65m, and still put down a 10.05 INTO A 1M/S HEADWIND!!!!. Based on what we know about wind and times, that's good for at least a 9.98/99 with no wind and about a 9.88 with 2m/s wind - WHILE JOGGING THE LAST 35/40 METRES. I think that was actually the most startling 100m performance I've ever seen...I'm almost certain that if he nailed this start here and given a favourable wind he may well have gone sub 9.5 and set a record that might have stood for 50 years. What might have been...

And just like that THE WORLD was denied the opportunity of seeing what would have most like been the fastest time set by Usain Bolt. I honestly believe he had intentions of smashing his own record and would have done so. However what bothers me most is the fact that it only seems to be the sport of athletics that you can't be human in. Boxing have warnings, football have warnings and cards, field events you can fowl and try again, and the list of sports goes on in which you can fowl in one way or the other and get another chance to compete, but not the athletics, nope they have to be super human. I know they are trying to get the best out of these athletes and want them to be as "professional" as possible, but they are not Robots. Give them one fowl start at least, because so much things can throw them off on that given day. If they mess up twice then fine, give them a red card, but ooh jeez ONCE?? At least give the defending champion that chance, so that the world and their fans won't be denied of what they really paid to see.

At the 2023 World Championships there was a bit of leniency with marginal infractions. A couple of people were allowed to continue after false starts, and a couple of others weren't. Overall the starting discipline was impressive. But before 2003, everyone was allowed one false start each. Sometimes it would take ages for the race to actually start because of how many false starts there were. People might even do it on purpose to throw others off. Didn't make for great viewing (OK not the most important part of the whole thing) and would affect the schedule of following events.

It's so dumb that they DQ someone who starts after the gun shot. I think this is ludicrous that he can time the start perfectly and get DQ'ed like that. Timing is everything and these jokers make a fool of racing by penalizing athletes for utilizing their racing intuition. Racing is only about being first and if you have an intuitive advantage then that is a skill you should be able to utilize.

If bolt would complained that something caused him to false start he would be allowed back. Yohan blake actually moved in blocks causing bolt false start but the movement was so small sensors didn't vut bolt noticed it and it distracted him. But then blake would actually get DSQ. But why they even changed that 2010 rule that was so stupid one false start should be allowed.

Forgive my ignorance but how did they all know it had been a false start. I mean all of them had their heads down and stopped immediately. Was it the guy up front who flashed something in front of them or was it a sound cue? Also, the Jamaican in lane 7 seemed to have stayed in position even after the gun fired? what happened there?
@dash0173
@dash0173 9 жыл бұрын
+Jonathan Morales pantoja If you react faster than .099 seconds, its considered a false start because its physically and mentally impossible for human beings to react that fast. Also its quite easy to tell when someone false starts in a race because your eyes have absolutely no motion in them because everything is so still when youre looking at the ground and your peripheral vision can pick up even the slightest of movements, hence, why they all knew and stopped instantly. also, the sound cue is another thing, they shoot the gun more than once when someone false starts. Even a twitch of the foot is called a false start but you can protest to get back in if you know you didn't false start or if a camera flash sets you off or something or the sort. and the guy in lane 7, thats nesta carter, as you can hear, the multiple shots of the gun happen extremely quickly and when i say quickly, i mean, they're controlled by a computer so its like 0.01 seconds fast... when you train as much as they do, you become very very very veryy accustomed to only hearing one shot and when you hear two or more, you just dont go really. idk how else to explain it. but i hope this helped.
@tahjjtahjj687
@tahjjtahjj687 8 жыл бұрын
+Jonathan Morales pantoja Simply put... The blocks have sensors in them... the slightest movement will be recorded. He moved before the gun was fired in the set position so the starter knew he false started. And it was pretty obvious. The equipment that are used are built in such a way to react whenever there is a reaction time quicker than .099. So u might hear the starting pistol twice or a loud Beeping sound(This is used on the Grand Prix Circuit/Diamond League Circuit).
