A tip for hair and fur in general. You should never need this many guides,each guide is perfectly capable of driving the shape of hundreds of individual hairs. Use the hairs tab and mess with the interpolation settings. It's significantly faster especially in Octane. General rule of thumb is to use as few guides as necessary to achieve the contour and shape you want. adding guides where you need them to help out the shape. then letting hair interpolation fill in the empty space

hair specular channel ( + transparency has no effect in the octane rendering unfortunately. And if you add an Octane map over the Hair object , it will eraze the color ..so pretty limited if you use octane imo . Redshift has a bit better controls , but pretty awefull result in hair animation ( lot of artefacts .. ) no real fully working solutions ( with those gpus renderers )
