People, commenting that smth doesn't work: note that this tutorial was made back in 2016, and C4D evolved pretty significantly since then. To resolve the issue with the third Random effector not being applied to the MoExtrude: 1. Do everything as Daniel shows till 6:32 2. Then on the Falloff tab in the newer versions of C4D you would need to create Spherical Field and adjust its size accordingly (you will have different UI but the essence is the same as you see in this video). 3. You still won't see the effect. To apply it you DON'T need to create Connect object, just select the MoExtrude object, go to Effectors tab, and drag and drop in the Effectors list the last Random effector you've just set up with the Falloff. Here you're supposed to see it applied. You may also need to adjust Min/Max range in the Effector tab of the Random effector's object to avoid negative extrude values. That worked for me. Daniel, thank you for the tutorial it's still relevant even in 5 years since you recorded it.

To resolve the part with defining Target in the newer versions of C4D you would need to create a Spherical Falloff for the Target effector, then select Cloner object, go to its Effectors tab, and drag and drop the Target effector into the effectors list. There's so much more flexibility to adjusting Spherical Field in the newer C4D. You won't find Invert checkbox in the Target effector, instead you would just need to add the Invert modifier field layer above the Spherical Field in the Falloff tab.

hey dude, i cant seem to get my 3rd Random effector to work, literally followed everything step by step multiple times and eveytime i to try to adjust he Z in order to extrude, nothing happens. using R20.. *Edit* never mind i restarted c4d twice and the random effector started to work.

IM on the newest version of Cinema 4D so why does my cloner put the shapes very far apart when i set size to 1000 200 1000 and only comes out like the video when i do it as 100 200 100. It makes no sense. It would if I was using a tool but this is just sizing.

Sounds like you're in a newer C4D version, with fields instead of regular falloff. But I think you can use "Field Objects" the same way as old falloff.

Hi, Daniel I learned a lot from this tutorial, pretty thanks for that, but, I got a little problem with connect object you used in it, The fall off doesn't work to cloner without connect ojbect, Is there any reason for that?

It's because the Random effector doesn't actually affect the cloner, it works with the MoExtrude which I believe is sometimes a bit confused by cloned geometry. The Connect Object just makes it standard geometry from the POV of the MoExtrude.

I had the same problem but I realized I had My cloner's Render Instances on. After I switched it off the Connect object worked just fine for me.

Hey man when I add the bevel deformer it doesn't bevel the edges at all , it just makes the polygons smaller to nothing and then bigger again, I can't figure out what the problem is, please help

7:30 I'm missing the bezier handles, how do I make them appear?

You need to first have a spline there which you draw by holding cmd (on a Mac) or ctrl (on a PC) and dragging in the little box, this creates a point, and you need to create at least two points to make a spline. If you already have that, the only thing I can think of is that your points might be linear and not bezier. There's a tiny little arrow right next to the text 'Spline' , if you click that and select a point you can make sure it's type is set to Bezier. Best of luck!

Hey Daniel, I'm new to C4D and have some kind of unwanted animation when following that video. I've managed to create the crystals and it looks fine but when I click the play button in C4D, the crystals move up and down. I've moved all the random effectors animation speed/scale to 0% but the crystals still move and down on play. Any idea why?

You could try a MoExtrude with scale quite low and move on the Z axis quite low as well. Might take some fiddling but could give a similar result.

That's coming from one of your Random effectors with the 'Random Mode' set to 'Turbulence'. If you look through them you should find that one has 'Animation Speed' set to something other than 0%. Just set that to 0% and you should be good.

Yup, it more or less works like a cloner does with effectors. But instead of moving the clones, it moves the extrusion. You can do some weir shit with it... Especially with the sound effector and a jiggle-deformer. ;)
